The "5 spiritual gifts" most commonly refer to the Fivefold Ministry mentioned in Ephesians 4:11: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher, which equip the church. However, the Bible lists many other gifts (like wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, tongues, mercy, serving) across different passages (Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4) that manifest in various ways for building up believers, not just these five leadership roles.
The first five gifts of the Holy Spirit are the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, and the working of miracles. Join us on Home Group as we continue our discussion on the gifts of the Spirit.
The Fivefold Ministry as Spiritual Gift Expression. The fivefold ministry gifts represent five distinct leadership roles—apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. These are spiritual gifts of the heart, designed to develop, equip, and multiply the church.
Ephesians 4:11 lists 5 gifts which are Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher.
According to the Scriptures, these gifts include such ministries as faith, healing, prophecy, proclamation, teaching, administration, reconciliation, compassion, and self-sacrificing service and charity for the help and encouragement of people.
God will reveal our gifts through His Holy Spirit. Believers should pray and study what God says about gifts in His Word. We should also remember God uses other believers to affirm our gift. Sometimes God may also use spiritual gift assessment tools to reveal His gifts.
The gifts are 1 ) wisdom, 2) understanding, 3) counsel, 4) fortitude, 5) knowledge, 6) piety, and 7) fear of the Lord. This list is based on Is 11:2.
Wisdom is considered the first and the greatest of the gifts. It acts upon both the intellect and the will. According to St. Bernard, it both illumines the mind and instills an attraction to the divine.
When Jesus said, "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head" (Matthew 8:20, Luke 9:58), He meant that following Him involves radical commitment, a willingness to sacrifice earthly comforts, and embracing a life of instability, contrasting His itinerant ministry with the security of wild animals having homes, and warning a potential disciple that discipleship isn't about worldly gain but total devotion.
The wise men brought myrrh to baby Jesus primarily for its powerful symbolism, representing his eventual sacrificial death and burial, even though it was a valuable substance used for anointing, perfume, and embalming in the ancient world, foreshadowing his role as a suffering savior and the remedy for humanity's sins. It was a prophetic gift, signaling that this King, born to save, would also die to achieve that salvation, a truth later fulfilled when myrrh was used to prepare His body for burial.
Ephesians 4:11 outlines five types of calling in the Bible — Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher — each designed to edify and strengthen the Church.
The apostle Paul says that Ministry Gifts are given by "Christ Himself." And he says that Spiritual Gifts are "distributed" by the "Holy Spirit." In one sense because the second half of the word "trinity" means "unity." We are talking about the same divine being: God.
Proponents of this concept interpret these passages as specifying five separate crowns, these being the Crown of Life; the Incorruptible Crown; the Crown of Righteousness; the Crown of Glory; and the Crown of Exultation.
The number 444 in relation to Jesus often signifies divine confirmation, spiritual protection, or a call to action, linking to themes like creation (number 4) and the Trinity (number 3), with interpretations pointing to God's presence, encouragement for spiritual growth, and the fulfillment of His purposes, seen by some as a sign of God's attention or a cycle of change. While not a direct, explicit code in the Bible, many believers connect the repetition of '4' (representing creation, the world, or stability) to Jesus's ministry and God's enduring truth, especially in angel number<>/nav>> and prophetic contexts.
Signs of the Holy Spirit is wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. The ability and desire to be obedient to Gods words. If you are indulging in sin the the Holy Ghost is not there because he can not dwell in an unclean temple.
The holy things and the pearls represent the things of God, perhaps the gospel itself. The dogs and pigs represent hostile, unworthy people. And so the statement translates into something like this: Do not preach the things of God to hostile, unworthy people.
Jesus said the same thing about gay people that he said about all people: God loves you beyond your wildest imagining and calls you to walk in love with God and with each other. He also said a whole lot about welcoming the stranger, embracing the outcast, ministering to the marginalized and loving ? not judging ?
Irritability, impatience, impulsive speech, unkind words, outbursts of anger, and a critical spirit are some of the “little foxes” which are serious sins before God. Each of them, if not checked and controlled by the Holy Spirit in the submissive and obedient Christian, will devastate one's witness for Christ.
So, where was Jesus for the three days in between His death and resurrection? For a time, He was in Hades, preaching to the spirits in prison (whoever they were). Then, He released all of the righteous dead of Sheol/Hades and took them with Him to heaven. But, again, there is controversy on virtually every point.
Cessationism is the view that certain spiritual gifts have ceased. We're talking about gifts like prophecy, tongues, word of knowledge, healings, and miracles. Some say God was only using these gifts during the apostolic age.
He is worth more than all the silver and gold on Earth, and He is yours. Trillions of dollars could never buy even a little part of this priceless gift called Jesus. This priceless gift is the whole heart of God and a gift who is thoughtful of you in every way, so why are you not more thoughtful of Him?
Isaiah 43:19 means God promises to bring new hope and provision, even in seemingly impossible situations, urging people to look forward rather than dwelling on past troubles by making pathways in the wilderness and streams in the desert, a metaphor for miraculous solutions and new life. It's a message of transformation, encouraging faith in God's power to create new opportunities and deliver His people, much like He provided for Israel in the past.
The Apostle Paul describes “the fruit of the Spirit” as “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5:22-23 NASB). These qualities reflect God's character and the behavior of those living according to God's Spirit.
It follows scripture.
This may seem obvious to some, but not to everyone. When God speaks, His words will never contradict scripture. So, if you know God, you will know His Word in scripture, and therefore you will know if the message He sends is really from Him because it will reflect His Word in scripture.
The gift of healing is different from the healing most of us experience through the common grace of medical intervention. The gift of healing is when the Holy Spirit heals someone from a disease or infirmity supernaturally.
