They fall into four categories based on the nature of the ability and how the Quirk itself functions. These four types are emitter Quirks, mutation Quirks, transformation Quirks and accumulation-type Quirks.
The three main types of quirks are known as emitter, mutant and transformation type. The emitter-type is known to not cause any abnormalities to the quirk user's body, whereas the mutant-type does lifelong physical abnormality to the body.
All For One is arguably the rarest and most powerful Quirk possessed by any villain in My Hero Academia. This Quirk so thoroughly defines its bearer that he's taken it as his name. All For One's Quirk lets him steal Quirks from other people and use them as though they were his own.

The man that would be known as Nine was born with a Quirk that allowed him to control and manipulate the weather around him. His Quirk was immensely powerful and was viewed as a god-like ability. At the same time though, Nine was one of the many who felt outcasted in society and believed that it should not be this way.
Deku's final quirk is known as 'gearshift'. It's a quirk that is activated via physical contact. It allows the user to change the velocity of anything they touch, meaning they can spontaneously slow things down, or speed things up.

A quirk is a unique, odd, and sometimes charming trait that makes a person stand out from the crowd. Country comedian Minnie Pearl was known for her quirk of wearing a $1.98 price tag dangling from her hat. A quirk can be an adorable little habit, like wearing flowery dresses and big sun bonnets or bow ties every day.
While not every One For All user has had multiple Quirks, some of them did indeed possess more than one, with the first user of One For All, Yoichi Shigaraki, being the prime example. He has access to two Quirks, as did Hikage Shinomori, and Diagoro Banjo.
As of now, Deku has access to seven Quirks, namely One For All, Transmission, Fa Jin, Danger Sense, Blackwhip, Smokescreen, and Float. The basic gist of all these powers is that they all come from the previous One For All users, with their abilities becoming stronger throughout the generations.
Given how the plot is being discussed this late in the story, it could be a hint towards the identity of Deku's father, Hisashi Midoriya, being a heteromorph himself.
A Quirk ( 個 こ 性 せい , Kosei?, lit. "Individuality"), formerly known as a Meta Ability ( 異 い 能 のう , Inō?, lit. "Extraordinary Ability"), is a superhuman ability that a person can possess. Along with being unique to each user, Quirks are sorted into multiple categories.
So it seems that while the word quirk is often seen as a “peculiar habit,” in the context of My Hero Academia it's meant to be an extension of human behavior. Which makes sense, given most of the world has powers in the story.

As time passes in the manga and anime, Eri is later seven years old. Initially, Eri lacks control over her Quirk and doesn't learn to use it properly for quite some time, but as time passes, she is able to use her Quirk for better things and is able to escape her past.
Izuku was raised primarily by his mother Inko, who has the ability to make small objects float towards herself. His father, Hisashi, whose quirk allows him to breathe fire, is not seen due to him working abroad in the United States.
