EPA Hierarchy of Disinfectants
EPA has established three main antimicrobial product categories based on the degree or level of antimicrobial activity. The three categories are sterilant, disinfectant and sanitizer.
CHLORINE.
Chlorine is the universal disinfectant, active against all microorganisms. It is generally served in the form of sodium hypochlorite, with different concentrations of free chlorine. Chemical Disinfectants
Currently, there are five main EPA-registered chemicals that hospitals use for disinfectants: Quaternary Ammonium, Hypochlorite, Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide, Phenolics, and Peracetic Acid.
Methods used in sterilization procedures include heat, ethylene oxide gas, hydrogen peroxide gas, plasma, ozone, and radiation. Sterility Assurance Level - the probability of a microorganism surviving on an item subjected to treatment is less than one in one million.

Three-Step Cleaning and Disinfecting Method

It's kinder to the environment (and many surfaces, fabrics and your hands) than chlorine bleach. That's why it's touted as the environmentally safest alternative to chlorine-based bleaches. Always clean before you disinfect!
Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda)
Sodium hydroxide, commonly known as caustic soda, is a powerful cleaning chemical used in a variety of applications. It is highly effective at breaking down organic matter, making it ideal for cleaning and unclogging drains, degreasing, and industrial cleaning processes.
The absence of all germs is referred to as sterilization and is a process that surpasses the efficacy level achieved with any disinfectant solution. EPA-registered chemical sterilants are the only types of sanitation products that can make a claim to kill all pathogens on hard surfaces.
Recommended disinfectant solutions
1. Hypochlorite (bleach) solution The recommended level of 1:10 bleach solution is made by adding 1 part household bleach (5.25% hypochlorite) to 10 parts water (or ½ cup of bleach to 4 ½ cups of water, or 125 ml of bleach to 1 litre of water).
The three main types of antiseptics are iodine or iodophor, alcohol, and chlorhexidine gluconate. Iodine and chlorhexidine disinfectants are sometimes mixed with alcohol or aqueous base, which may influence their clinical effectiveness.
Some of the most common chemicals used in the pharmaceutical industry include acetone, hydrochloric acid, acetic anhydride, benzyl chloride, and diethyl ether. These may either be used as active ingredients, solvents, precursors, or reagents.
