Call return (*69) automatically dials your last incoming call, whether the call was answered, unanswered or busy.
The first one is *69, which traces the number of the last person who called you. It works even for anonymous or hidden calls, so you can get the phone number and the exact time they called. Once you have that hidden phone number, you can block it on your phone, so it can't call you anymore.

This Vertical Service Code, *82, enables calling line identification regardless of subscriber preference, dialed to unblock withheld numbers (private callers) in the U.S. on a per-call basis.
Anonymous Call Rejection (*77) stops calls from people that use a blocking feature to keep their name or number from being displayed. When Anonymous Call Rejection is turned on, callers will hear a message telling them to hang up, turn off the blocking feature, and call again.
Auto Redial is a service that dials a number that is busy for up to 30 minutes and alerts you with a distinctive ring when the line is no longer busy. To activate Auto Redial, press *66 (1166 from a rotary phone).
Australia: *10# for Telstra services or *69 on Optus HFC Telephony network. This only allows one to return the last unanswered call, and can cost 35 cents per use.

Activate Call Trace
Hang up the phone after receiving a harassing call. Pick up the phone and press *57 (touch tone) or 1157 (rotary). You'll hear a confirmation tone and message will be heard If the trace is successful.
Star 69 refers to "last-call return," the Calling Feature Vertical service code *69 keyed on a landline telephone set in order to return the call of the last one to ring (in Canada and the United States).
Dialing *69 will automatically call back the last number that called you. Keep in mind that this feature may not be available on all cell phone networks, and it may not work for calls that are blocked or private.
If *69 does not work:
Your phone must be set to touch tone for Last Call Return to work. Not hearing any beeps when dialing out is a sign that it might be set to pulse. Switching between touch tone and pulse depends on the model of your phone. Check your User Manual to be sure.
Just as *72 (the code for call forwarding) directs your calls to a different line, *67 redirects your caller ID, concealing it from appearing on the recipient's phone.
Caller ID and *57 call tracing services -- the primary consumer interfaces with electronic identifiers -- make it tough to hide from the heat these days. Dialing *67 may cloak your call from other Caller ID-equipped phones, but not from your carrier or the authorities.

To block caller ID for an individual call, dial 1831 (or #31# from a mobile) then the number you are calling. Generally, this will make sure the person you are calling will not see your number.
Depending on your phone provider, you can use a call tracing/tracking service to find out the real identity behind a blocked or private number. After receiving a private call, you can dial *57 from a landline or #57 from your cell phone and follow the phone company's voice instructions.

When you dial *#21#, you are, in fact, activating a feature access code that quickly tells you the status of call forwarding for your phone. It's a quick way of seeing what, in the case of this particular 'setting interrogation code,' your call forwarding settings. That's it, nothing more or less.
