You can either hang them horizontally or vertically, depending on the available space. A vertically hanged rectangular backlit mirror makes more sense over a single-sink vanity. And if you have a full-length option, positioning your rectangular mirror lengthwise is also a smart choice.
Soft Rectangular Bathroom Mirrors

When preparing to install the light fixtures and mirror above a bathroom vanity, the easiest way to start is with the mirror, as you want to center it on the wall. Standard spacing for a vanity mirror(s) is 5-10 inches from the vanity sink to the bottom of the mirror.

Choosing the right size

Where should you not put a mirror? In feng shui, you should not put a mirror so you can see yourself in bed. 'Never have a mirror reflecting the occupants of the bed – this is said to invite infidelity and discord,' says Suzanne Roynon. Mirrors can also drain your energy if they reflect the bed, she says.
For the most part, though, having no more than two mirrors in the bathroom is advised. Having too many mirrors in a bathroom can cause certain issues. Many people are uncomfortable with seeing too much of their own reflection.
Another option for decorating around a mirror is to hang pictures on either side. For the most cohesive look, try to get pictures that are proportional in size, and use frames that coordinate.
Bottom line: mirrors don't flip images; people do. It's easier with images... The mirror doesn't flip left and right as you can see in the upper image. The so-called flip occurs when somebody in the real world rotates 180∘ about the vertical axis to see you face to face, as can be seen in the lower image.
This is because the left and right sides of the object are switched in the reflection, causing the image to appear flipped horizontally.
In the real world, people regularly confuse Horizontal and Vertical Flip as they feel alike. Still, there is a clear-cut difference: Horizontal Flip flips an image along the y-axis; Vertical Flip flips an image along the x-axis.
