However, Vecna might go a step further and won't kill Nancy as he did with his previous victims, and instead, he will torture her by attacking and tormenting her loved ones, which could lead to the deaths of some of the characters closest to Nancy.
She narrowly evaded death each time, but it could eventually catch up to her. By targeting Nancy, Vecna would demonstrate that he's more frightening, intelligent and powerful than anyone initially assumed. She's easily the character who knows the most about him and understands fragments of how his mind works.
Vecna doesn't kill Nancy (Natalia Dyer), but he does leave her with a vision: a dark cloud, dead soldiers, and armies of monsters. This is Hawkins' future if Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) wins. He's dangerously close to winning, too, what with four being the magic number.
However, Nancy is freed by Vecna within the first five minutes of volume 2, with instructions for her to tell Eleven what he has planned for Hawkins. Nancy wakes up to see Steve and is never affected by the curse again, despite Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) escaping Vecna only to again be attacked by him later on.
As Vecna continued to go after young victims in order to open more portals, he set his sights on Max Mayfield, since she was investigating the deaths of Chrissy and another student named Fred Benson with help from her friends (including Dustin, Steve, and her boyfriend Lucas).
At his empire's height, Vecna was betrayed and destroyed by his most trusted lieutenant, a vampire called Kas the Bloody-Handed, using a magical sword that Vecna himself had crafted for him, now known as the Sword of Kas.
Younger people probably make better dimension bridging devices/batteries and their suffering last longer. Vecna needs those gates to destabilize the barrier between dimensions. I don't think he's particularly interested in finding Eleven until he knows she's alive. For all he knows Eleven is dead.
1. Is Nancy OK? Yes! Nancy (Natalia Dyer) is fine — at least, as fine as she can be after being traumatized by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and almost strangled to death by his squelchy, squelchy tentacles. Instead of escaping Vecna's Mind Lair by hearing her favorite song, Nancy is actually released by Vecna himself.
However, within the red smoke of Vecna's Mind Lair, it wasn't the song itself that saved her, but the memories it conjured up. What broke through to Max was the happy, loving memories of her friends, particularly Lucas and Eleven, and these were what truly allowed her to break free of Vecna's grasp and escape.
However, either she didn't have a great aim or she was trying to play it safe because she didn't hit him in the face even once, and that may be the reason why Vecna is still alive. Obviously, Nancy was trying to play it safe. She even cut off the muzzle of her shotgun so she could have the best odds.
Brenner (Matthew Modine) states in the Stranger Things episode "Papa" that Vecna "consumes" everything about his victims, Vecna targets traumatized victims because it builds for him a well of sad and angry memories to draw from. With each victim, he can become gradually more powerful.
The theory is that Karen Wheeler might be Vecna's sister, Alice Creel. As we know, Vecna is actually a man of many names, including 001, Peter Ballard and Henry Creel. We saw Henry and Alice together as children briefly in a flashback and it is believed that Henry killed his sister along with his mother.
It seems that the reason why Vecna wasn't killing for the seven years after the Hawkins Lab massacre was because he was waiting to become more powerful as the Mind Flayer and Demogorgons took more victims, as he was likely weakened after being thrown into the dimension.
Fred Benson, a friend of Nancy's who was similar to Barb, was cursed and killed by Vecna. His death brought back Nancy's trauma, guilt, and grief over Barb's death.
"And then he showed me my mom, Holly, Mike... and they... they were all," Nancy did not have to finish her sentence to let everyone know that Vecna showed her dead bodies of her family.
Nancy tells the Hawkins teens that Vecna showed her a dark cloud forming over Hawkins, which certainly came true in Stranger Things season 4's final moments. Vecna also showed Nancy downtown Hawkins on fire, a fate that the California gang attests to as they finally make their way into town.
How Many People Has Vecna Killed? Eleven's count may be high, but Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) has her beat. The monster formerly known as Henry Creel has directly killed 40 people.

After previously having tricked Eleven into destroying the chip, Peter goes on a killing spree in the lab until a confrontation with Eleven ended in her casting him into the Upside Down - where after falling through various dimensions and sustaining various injuries, Peter was transformed into Vecna.
We know Eleven was born in 1971, which means her mom got pregnant with her during the tests, sometime in 1970. A 1959 flashback in the mid-season 4 finale reveals a 12-year-old One (Jamie Campbell Bower). That puts One, a.k.a. Vecna, as 24 when Eleven was born.
He didn't name himself Vecna, the kids did. They named him after a DnD character who's a wizard, since Vecna's curse sounds like something a dark wizard would do.
