This is despite reports that these devices will see notable upgrades in camera hardware alongside the addition of the Dynamic Island. In fact, there's even been one report from a source with a decent track record claiming that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could be cheaper than the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.
The iPhone 15 family will arrive in four models, just like the iPhone 14 series before it. First of them is the 6.1-inch iPhone 15, the most affordable vanilla model. Then comes the larger, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus with a bigger battery.
But one of the biggest upgrades for the iPhone 15 will be the use of a 48MP primary camera that Apple introduced last year on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to get periscope telephoto zoom lenses in 2024. In 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only device to get the new camera technology because of size constraints.
Apple is set to transition to under-screen Face ID on iPhone 16 Pro models in 2024, followed by under-screen Face ID and an under-screen front camera on iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026, according to respected display industry consultant Ross Young.
With all the upgraded smartphone tech, you might prefer to buy a more recent iPhone model, but the iPhone 8 is still a perfectly good smartphone in 2023.
