Stefan met Silas, who revealed that Stefan was Silas' shadow self. Just as Amara was the progenitor of the Petrova line of doppelgängers, Silas had a doppelgänger bloodline of his own - the Salvatores. Stefan's relationship with Silas was as antagonistic as Elena's was with Katherine.
