Our tears are incredibly precious to God, symbolizing deep emotional pain, heartfelt repentance, or sincere worship, with biblical passages like Psalm 56:8 saying He collects them in a bottle and records them, showing He intimately notices and values every one, promising to comfort and transform sorrow into joy. Both Christian and Islamic traditions highlight that tears shed for God are a powerful spiritual language, unlocking mercy, drawing one closer to Him, and never going unnoticed.
Revelation 21:4 KJV says, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away". This verse is a promise of hope and comfort to those who believe in God.
Psalm 56:8 tells us that God keeps a record of our tears, so when you think He only remembers your mistakes, remember this instead: "Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll—are they not in your record?" (NIV). Yes! He knows each tear we shed!!
They can flow in repentance and remorse, as an act of holy mourning. I've found that they can flow as a simple response to the tangible presence of God. As best as I can understand it, tears are a sign that God is touching our centre. It is one way that he helps our prayers descend from our minds into our hearts.
Yes, says the Bible. “You keep track of all my sorrows,” a man named David wrote of God in Psalm 56. “You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book,” (Psalm 56:8).
Someday crying will end
Jesus taught, “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh” (Luke 6:21). Those who mourn “shall be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). As David put it, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5).
Tears are a gift of grace from God, and their fruit is always joy. Weeping arises from the heart and signifies an open and softened heart. Perhaps that is why so many people are embarrassed to cry; they do not want to reveal their vulnerability.
Tears are “the work of God in you,” says Padre Pio. Pope Francis says the gift of tears “prepare the eyes to look, to see the Lord.” “It is a beautiful grace,” he says, “to weep praying for everything: for what is good, for our sins, for graces, for joy itself… [it] prepares us to see Jesus.”
God Hears You
He even hears our temper tantrums and silent cries. He hears our cries of unhappiness, pain, frustration, exhaustion, and fear. We can be honest with Him. His listening ear is always open to our prayers.
It's as though each one of our tears carries a microcosm of the collective human experience, like one drop of an ocean” This highlights the importance of tears and the role they play in our emotional well-being. Our favourite kind of tears are 'happy tears' and tears of change.
Psalm 56:8 says, “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?” God knows our suffering and tears. He sees how we suffer, and He is near to us in our suffering. No tear that you have cried has gone unnoticed by your heavenly Father.
Joshua 24:14–15 Reminds Us to Serve God
And then for us to pray that God would save us from idols in our country. We must decide if we will serve God or ourselves. Let's do that. God, we start this prayer by saying you alone are God.
Jesus said, Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4). This refers to weeping before the Lord, and the Holy Ghost will cry and groan through me and make intercession. He did that so often when the Lord took my wife, Angel, and I don't know what I would have done if He had not.
God doesn't judge whether our sorrow is "valid." But because of His compassion, He catches every tear that is shed. It doesn't matter how big or small, trivial or important, the sorrow might be. In this Psalm, David expressed grief over his situation, which was truly dangerous.
This psalm is simply titled A Psalm of David. This is one of what are commonly known as the Imprecatory Psalms, which in strong terms ask God to defeat and destroy the enemies of His people. As you read through the book of Psalms, the Imprecatory Psalms become more intense.
The gift of tears brings healing from the harm caused by sin, and leads us from sorrow to joy. Through this gift, God pours forth Divine grace into our brokenness and beings forth healing and renewal in our very being.
In the Bible God gets angry at human violence. He gets angry at powerful leaders who oppress other humans. And the thing that makes God more angry than anything else in the Bible is Israel's constant covenant betrayal.
Living a life marked by God means embracing His identity, walking in obedience, and fulfilling His purpose with faith and courage. It means being led by the Holy Spirit, loving others well, and standing firm in your faith.
How to Let Go and Let God, One Day at a Time
He gathers up all your tears and puts them in his bottle (Psalm 56:8). Like a mother sitting beside her child's sickbed, God marks every sigh of discomfort and pain.
They're part of how your eyes stay clean by constantly flushing away irritants and debris. But tears are more than just a cleaning crew, too. They also contain antibacterial enzymes and proteins that fight infection and promote healing.
The endorphins released are natural painkillers that can help to reduce physical and emotional pain. Studies have found that emotional tears contain more stress hormones (like Leu-enkephalin and prolactin). By crying, you may literally be decreasing stress levels.
When we feel like we've been forgotten or left behind, we can express it openly. And then we can remind God of His promises to us. We can echo right back to Him the things He has said to us. The idea of reminding God of something may sound strange — after all, He is God, and He doesn't forget the things He has told us!
Just as God saw and heard the Hebrew's cry, He hears yours, too. He is aware of your affliction and suffering. Each tear we cry has meaning to our Father God. He keeps track of all our sorrows just as carefully as if He were gathering each tear and placing it in a bottle for His remembrance.
