In the historical reality that the show Reign is based on, King Francis II of France died at 16 years old on December 5, 1560, from complications of an ear infection, although the series took significant historical liberties with the exact timing and cause of his death. Historically, he was born January 19, 1544, and died just a few months shy of his 17th birthday.
