Starlink dishes are designed to withstand significant wind, but the specific threshold depends on the model and the security of the mount. Generally, winds above 75 mph (120 km/h) can be considered "too much" for standard installations if the mounting is inadequate or if there is a risk of flying debris.
A Starlink dish is only as strong as the mount holding it. While the dish itself is rated for high winds, these ratings are meaningless if the mounting hardware fails. Poor quality mounts can fail at low wind speeds, leading to signal loss, equipment damage, or complete detachment.
Standard dish – no published figure, but well-mounted units usually ride out 130–145 kph winds (Category 2) without drama. Flat High-Performance/Maritime – officially rated to 280 kph (174 mph), squarely in Category 5 territory.

The Starlink "2-month rule" means that if you're using a Mobile Regional plan (or sometimes standard residential plans with portability) outside your registered service country for more than 60 consecutive days (about two months), you must update your service address to the new location or risk service suspension, as Starlink requires usage within authorized regions on their map, forcing you to change your account to avoid being cut off.
Rain - Starlink is designed to operate in wet conditions; it's hydrophobic and has a low affinity to water. In extreme cases, heavy rain or wind may affect your connection, potentially leading to slower speeds or a rare outage.

Significant weather can cause service degradation due to attenuation of the radio signals. Moderate to heavy rain, snow, and hail can cause momentary service dropouts. Storm systems near our local ground stations can also impact service.
Starlink is designed and tested to handle a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions including snow, hail, sleet, heavy rain, and extreme heat. Starlink is not designed to handle hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, meteors, dinosaurs, or other extreme forces of nature.
A 100Ah lithium (LiFePO4) battery can power a Starlink Mini for 25-30+ hours, while a standard Starlink might last 12-20 hours, depending heavily on the model (Mini uses less), usage (idle vs. heavy use), inverter efficiency (DC kits are better), and if you're using an inverter or direct DC. Expect around 1200Wh from a 12V 100Ah battery, so calculate based on consumption (Mini: ~20-40W; Standard: ~40-70W), factoring in losses for inverters (around 15-20% less life).
Disadvantages of Starlink:
SpaceX: Don't worry about cutting down trees to get a Starlink signal anymore. SpaceX says a new Starlink upgrade can keep the satellite internet flowing — even if trees partially block your home's view of the sky.
Strong winds can cause physical damage to infrastructure, such as antennas, cables, and outdoor routers. Even if your equipment remains intact, wind can knock down trees or scatter debris, creating physical obstructions that block or weaken WiFi signals.
Heavy snow accumulation on the top of your Starlink could have impacts on your service. If your Starlink is completely covered with heavy snow, this would most likely result in an intermittent connection or in no service at all.

According to Rainbow Restoration, wind gusts become dangerous at speeds as low as 39 mph, posing risks to safety and property. Gusts over 39 mph can break branches and damage structures. Speeds above 58 mph may cause significant property damage. Preparation and awareness are key to minimizing wind-related hazards.
Take cover next to a building or under a shelter. Stand clear of roadways or train tracks, as a gust may blow you into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Use handrails where available on outdoor walkways and avoid other elevated areas such as roofs without adequate railing. Watch for flying debris.
Designed for Harsh Environments
The Starlink Performance Kit is capable of enduring winds up to 270+ kph (170+ mph) and temperatures from -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F), and high-vibration environments.
However, although lightning tends to strike objects that are significantly above average terrain height, TV aerials, or Starlink dishes, are usually only a few feet above roof level so the increased risk of a lightning strikes is small.
