Until your relationship with your dog elevates to a level where he completely understands the rules that are in place, your dog's freedom should be limited, and he should always be under supervision. Once your Puppy starts understanding the rules and what is and isn't, gradually give more and more freedom to your dog.

As a general rule, it takes most puppies about 12-24 months of age, paired with consistent learning and training, to be ready for more freedom.
Young puppies under 6 months old should not be left alone for more than 2 or 3 hours because of their bladder control and risk of separation anxiety. When you do leave your young puppy alone it's best to keep them safe in a crate or puppy-proof room where they can't break anything or get into too much trouble.
Be sure to not let them run around the entire house for the first few weeks to avoid any unwanted behaviors. Baby gates are a great way to block off a smaller area of your home for your puppy to explore. If you have other pets, have their first interactions be in a controlled environment.

Crate or Sleeping Area: Have your puppy's regular crate on one side of the zone, with the door left open so your puppy has easy access when they want to rest. Make sure the crate has appropriate chew-proof bedding. You can tape down your dog's bed so it stays put and can't be pulled out and chewed on.
In the beginning, we suggest covering a wider area with 3-4 potty pads until your puppy learns how to target the pad more precisely. Important note: Although you can leave potty pads in your puppy's playpen to absorb any accidents they may have, this on its own won't potty train your puppy.
Interrupt Playtime
In some cases, letting out a loud noise will make your puppy even more excited, and they might continue to bite. At this point, ignore your puppy, stop any interactions and walk away. Stopping playtime abruptly is far more effective than yelling at your puppy or punishing them.
Without a lot of drama, immediately take them to their outside bathroom spot. Praise your pup and give a treat if they finish there. Don't punish your puppy for eliminating in the house. If you find a soiled area, just clean it up.
Getting the timing right. On average, puppies will poop between 5 to 30 minutes after eating. Just like humans, puppies have a gastro-colic reflux. This reflux action takes place after eating as the stomach fills and the colon gets stimulated and starts making poop.
