In general, you need to own at least two perfumes. With two perfumes, you can have cold and warm weather perfumes to ensure a matching scent all year round. More perfumes are recommended, especially if you want to be able to change things. The answer to the question of how many scents you need depends on who you ask.
The answer is twofold. First, you need one signature scent that you can wear every day. Once you've sorted that, it's time to build a collection of five different fragrances. Now, let's talk about how to choose the right perfume for different occasions and locations.
Perfume layering is a wonderful way to create a signature scent by combining two different perfumes. The art of pairing scents gives you so many more options by experimenting with your favourite perfumes and exploring your existing fragrance wardrobe – creating a truly personal scent that is completely unique to you.
The most common are 50ml and 100ml, but there are much larger bottles, some up to 250ml. If you're trying to get yourself a new fragrance, it's important to know what role this fragrance plays.
Start slow and steady. Though there is never a definite number, Ajmal suggests at least three for beginners looking to build their collection. To begin with you should start with a day scent, an evening scent and a fragrance that goes from day to night.
The FAA limits the total amount of restricted medicinal and toiletry articles, including aerosols, in checked baggage. The total aggregate quantity per person cannot exceed 2 kg (70 ounces) or 2 L (68 fluid ounces). The capacity of each container must not exceed 0.5 kg (18 ounces) or 500 ml (17 fluid ounces).
Don't wear too much perfume
If you wear the same perfume day after day, you can get used to it and don't feel the scent as much as before. But it doesn't mean, that people around you don't feel it also. From time to time, it is better to change your perfume.
And if you ask fragrance lovers and collectors, you'll probably be told to own more than 10 fragrances. However, it is generally advisable to own at least two fragrances. Only one scent is enough, but finding a single perfume that works well in all situations is very difficult.
We recommend no more than 5, no less than 2 and space them out (wrists, neck and body) to make the scent even. This depends on the intensity of the fragrance you are using, and obviously these rules can be bent if you are combining perfumes. This also only really applies to your initial spray.
Every cologne has its own composition, and some work better with fewer sprays than others. The general advised amount is four sprays.
Too much fragrance not only is a turnoff, it can give people migraines or even allergic reactions.
A signature scent is a fragrance that truly defines you – it says exactly what you want it to say about you.
Tissue Test
If the tissue sticks, it's a sure sign you've gone overboard. To counter it, dip a cotton ball into some rubbing alcohol and pat the spot where you sprayed the perfume – this will tone down the scent.
You may be wondering how many sprays to use. Spraying just the right amount is a balancing act: too much cologne can be overwhelming, but too little may not be noticeable. Typically, you should start with around two squirts and slowly build up to four or five if you want a stronger aroma.
I would say at least 12. One for each season, at least. And at least 4 for different occasions. One for work, an office scent, something light and airy.

Spray it onto your pulse points.
It's places like the inside of your wrists, inner elbows, below your belly button, behind your ear lobes, and the back of your knees. These warm spots on your body emit extra body heat, which helps to naturally diffuse a scent.
If you've never layered fragrances before, try to combine two fragrances that have a common note—jasmine, for instance—and go from there. Or, if you're adventurous, try combining two or more opposite fragrances—a spice and vanilla for instance. “There is no right or wrong,” Rahme says.
Wearing too much perfume might also be an indicator of depression. Researchers from Tel Aviv University found that women who were depressed also lost their sense of smell. In order to compensate, they started wearing more perfume so that they'd be able to detect it on themselves.
Layering fragrance doesn't always mean spritzing perfumes on top of one another; you may prefer to spray one scent on your neck and a second on your wrists. I always recommend layering perfume over lotion - and like to begin by applying that all over.
If the scent has a high alcohol content, it's best to apply it on the skin. If the fragrance has a low alcohol content, it can be sprayed on clothes for a more subtle and long-lasting effect. Remember, a fragrance is an extension of your personality, so wear it wherever you feel most comfortable."
Perfume will stay longer on textile than on your skin. If you want your perfume to last longer, praying some on your clothes or scarf is a good idea. But be careful: some perfumes can cause stains on your clothes, especially the more concentrated perfumes with a darker, ambery color.
Do not spray your perfume on your clothes. Bhide stresses, “In India, people mostly put their perfume on clothes. That is wrong. You are supposed to spray them directly on your skin for them to work their best.”
