Bra—1 bra for every three days of wear. If you are planning on physical exercise, bring a sports bra for each day of sweat-inducing activity.
Packing Guidelines
I'd suggest packing an average of 3 bras for a trip of any destination based on your assessment of the above factors.
Applying the formulas above, a 4 day trip means packing a minimum of 2 bras (trip length of 4 days divided by 2) and 4 to 8 pairs of underwear (underwear quantity = trip length or trip length x 2).
For a 5 day vacation, you will want to bring 2-3 pairs of shorts or pants, 3-4 tops, a light jacket (or a heavy jacket, depending on where you are traveling), and 1 formal outfit if you are planning on attending a nice restaurant or event. If you are going to the beach, pack 2-3 swimsuits/trunks.
For a shorter trip (three to five days), you can probably manage with the following: one pair of underwear and socks per day, one pair of pajamas, one to two dressier outfits, one to two activewear or athleisure outfits, one to two casual outfits, and one to two pairs of shoes.
Trips of 5 days or more usually call for packs of 70 liters or more. These are also usually the preferred choice for winter treks lasting more than 1 night. (Larger packs can more comfortably accommodate extra clothing, a warmer sleeping bag and a 4-season tent, which typically includes extra poles.)
Do the clothing countdown: If you need a mantra to help streamline your wardrobe, use the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 rule for a weeklong trip: Limit yourself to no more than five sets of socks and underwear, four tops, three bottoms, two pairs of shoes and one hat. The list should be adjusted to suit your needs.
If you have unlimited suitcase space and don't want to do any laundry, a two-week trip means packing 14/2 = 7 bras and at least 14 pairs of underwear. That consumes a lot of valuable suitcase space! To reduce the number of pieces that need to be packed, simply commit to doing laundry on the road.
Sleepwear. Whether you sleep in t-shirts and sweatpants or complete pajama sets, about two pairs of pajamas will be enough for a weeklong vacation. However, if you're someone who likes slipping into fresh pajamas every night, then you may want to pack extra loungewear, space in your luggage permitting.
However, there are sound recommendations you can follow. And no, you probably shouldn't wear your bra for a week before washing it. “As a dermatologist and skincare expert, I would recommend that bras be washed after every few wears to maintain proper hygiene and skin health,” says Dr. Mokaya.
Add 4ins if the underbust rib cage measurement obtained is an even number of inches. Eg. if your underbust (ribcage) measurement is 30inches add 4ins to obtain bra size 34. Add 5ins if the underbust (ribcage) measurement obtained is an odd number of inches.
If you dress up but don't workout, you need at least 2 day-to-day + 2 fancy-pants bras, so 4 total (that feel good and look good). If you workout and also dress up regularly, you need at least 2 day-to-day + 2 sports + 2 fancy-pants bras, so 6 total (that feel good and look good).
Your bra gets a little dirty every time you wear it, and by the third wear or so, it's begging to be washed. Sweat, body oils and dead skin cells rub off onto your bra as you wear it. Wearing the bra every day means the particles will build up quickly on the bra.
As a general rule, Thirdlove recommends washing your bra at least once every week or two. Of course this depends on how many bras are in your rotation — if you're wearing a different bra everyday, you probably don't have to wash them all once a week.
Shapiro, there are no known health risks associated with not wearing a bra. “There is no 'wrong' answer,” Dr. Shapiro says. “If you find that you're the kind of person who's comfortable and confident without a bra, that's fine.”
Socks and Underwear
Although small in size, they are essential parts of the 2 weeks parking list and ones that we might have to change frequently if we are moving around all the time. Keeping in mind that you can do your laundry halfway through, you can pack 8-10 underwear and socks to cover you for two weeks.
So how often you should wash your pyjamas? Harpa recommends washing pyjamas after three to four nights of wearing them - but if you bathe or shower before bedtime, you can extend this period of wearing without washing to 5-7 nights, maximum.
5 to 7 Day Trip
3 bottoms. 4 tops. 1 dress. 1 outer layer (a jacket, coat or blazer)
Bras are made of gentle fabrics that break down with body oils. Washing them after each wearing extends their life. Never wear the same bra two days in a row unless you've washed it overnight.
It's also important to rotate your bras, so the cups and straps can relax. This allows them to retain their shape and elasticity. “You can wear the same bra two days in a row, as long as you take it off for several hours in between to allow the bra to relax,” Dr. Vij says.
