Suspension: 1 x 5 mL measuring spoon (100mg) of the oral suspension as a single dose. It can take up to 3 days for the dead worms to pass through the system.
Stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects.
This is why you may need to take another dose 2 weeks later to help prevent reinfection. How long does it take to work? The medicine should start to work straight away but it may take several days to kill all the worms.
To treat pinworms, adults and children greater than 2 years old should take 1 tablet on the first day, then 1 tablet 2 weeks later and a third tablet 4 weeks after the first tablet. The first dose will get rid of the worms, but not the eggs that the worm may have left behind.
Mebendazole works by preventing the threadworms absorbing sugar, which means they should die within a few days. This medication is 90-100% effective at killing the threadworms, but it doesn't kill the eggs. This is why the hygiene measures outlined below should also be followed for 6 weeks.
Once you have dewormed your puppy, you'll probably want to know how long your dog will continue to poop worms. Puppies will typically poop worms for 2-3 days after they have been dewormed.
For oral dosage form (Vermox™ chewable tablets): For roundworms and whipworms: Adults and children 1 year of age and older—500 milligrams (mg) once a day for 1 day. Children younger than 1 year of age—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
You'll likely need to give your doctor a stool sample for a few months to make sure all the worms are gone. It's harder to treat an infection caused by tapeworm cysts. In addition to the medicine that kills the tapeworm, you may need medicine to reduce inflammation or other symptoms, like seizures, that you're having.
Taking an extra dose of mebendazole is unlikely to harm you. However, you may get side effects such as: stomach cramps. feeling or being sick (nausea or vomiting)
Re-Treatment
COMBANTRIN® is only effective against adult worms, which means any eggs or immature worms inside the body might still linger after the initial treatment. In order to minimise the risk of reinfestation, a follow-up treatment two to four weeks later is strongly recommended if symptoms are still present.
Take one tablet twice daily (i.e. morning and evening) for three consecutive days. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose depending on the type of worm infection. If anyone takes too many Vermox Tablets, contact a doctor or your nearest Accident & Emergency department taking this leaflet and pack with you.
The only way to know if the deworming medicine worked is by getting your feces tested after 2 to 3 weeks of taking the medicine. The absence of worm segments, eggs, or larvae indicates that the treatment was effective.
Mebendazole is best taken with meals, especially fatty ones (eg, meals that include whole milk or ice cream). This helps to clear up the infection by helping your body absorb the medicine better. However, if you are on a low-fat diet, check with your doctor.
However, deworming treatment can have some mild side effects such as - dizziness, nausea, headache, and vomiting.
Treatment to get rid of worms
If you have worms, a GP will prescribe medicine to kill them. You take this for 1 to 3 days. The people you live with may also need to be treated. Any worms in your gut will eventually pass out in your poo.

Threadworm Infection
Adults and children over 2 years old: Take one tablet. Repeat after 2-4 weeks. If symptoms are still present a few days after taking the dose, consult your doctor.
Mebendazole (Vermox) is used to treat roundworm and whipworm infections. Mebendazole (Emverm) is used to treat pinworm, whipworm, roundworm, and hookworm infections.
Threadworms live about 5-6 weeks in the gut, and then die. However, before they die the female worms lay tiny eggs around the anus. This tends to be at night when you are warm and still in bed. The eggs are too small to see, but cause an itch around the anus.
Children can get threadworms again after they've been treated for them if they get the eggs in their mouth. This is why it's important to encourage children to wash their hands regularly.
7. Worms can live as long as four years. When worms die in the bin, their bodies decompose and are recycled by other worms, along with the food scraps. Worm castings are toxic to live worms.
Modern dewormers do not require the user to be on an empty stomach before deworming, so users can deworm at any time, but the best time is to drink early in the morning on an empty stomach or drink after dinner about 2 hours .
Some intestinal worms, like hookworms and whipworms, are so small that you won't see any worms in your dog's stool at all. You may be surprised to still see live worms in your dog's feces after deworming them, but this is normal.
If the treatment is working, the worms your puppy deposits in their stool should be dead. Dead worms are less white and more translucent than ones that are alive. Deworming treatments generally begin working about 12 hours after you give them the deworming treatment.
