Spray WD-40 Multi-Use using the smart straw into a corner of the silicone sealant you want to get rid of. When you spray the lubricant onto the silicone it penetrates the stubborn parts of the seal and allows you to easily remove the unwanted silicone.
Removing caulk can be a time-consuming job. To make the task easier, spray any peeling caulk down with WD-40 and let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes. This will help loosen the caulk before you use a 3-in-1 removing tool.
There are several substances you can use to soften the silicone caulking. Among the easiest and most affordable are vinegar, alcohol, and WD-40. If you need something stronger, you can use industrial-grade isopropyl alcohol, and we recommend contacting a professional.
Caulk Residue
Bleach or mineral spirits work best. These cleaners will remove residue that could prevent the new caulk from sticking.
Apply Goo Gone Caulk Remover directly to the sealant and wait 60 seconds. Using a plastic putty knife, gently remove the sealant. After using the putty knife, use a nylon brush to scrub away the remaining residue.
CHELA Digesil is a catalytic solvent that, as mentioned before, digests that Silicone Oxygen bond, breaking down the silicone polymers into smaller molecules that can be more easily rinsed away with water, removing it from the surface they are bonded to.
Like WD-40, vinegar won't magically dissolve silicone caulk. However, vinegar will loosen up particularly stubborn caulk if you don't have a commercial caulk remover in your supply closet. Vinegar can also be used to clean and disinfect gaps after you've pulled out all of the old silicone caulk residue.
Cured silicone can only be removed mechanically from a surface once cured with either a specialist tool or a sharp blade. Alternatively, soak a cloth with turpentine/paraffin and place over the residue. Put a plastic sheet over the cloth to prevent drying and leave overnight. It should be swollen enough to remove.
You can make the job a bit eaiser by soaking the cloth in methylated spirits. The methylated spirits act as a solvent, breaking down the last of the silicone, making it less sticky and easier to wipe up.
Rubbing or isopropyl alcohol will soften caulk, and it's safe to use on a painted or plastic surfaces. Dampen a clean rag with your alcohol and leave it on top of the caulk you want to soften up. Wait few minutes and the caulk should be much easier to work with.
Hold a glass scraper at a very shallow angle to one of the surfaces. Scrape the caulk residue off the surface the way you would with a razor blade. Repeat this with the other surface. Pull out the slivers of caulk with the pliers.

Krud Kutter 24 oz. caulk Remover is a specially formulated remover that aids in the removal of caulks and sealants from a variety of interior/exterior surfaces. Krud Kutter caulk remover works on most caulks and sealants including silicone, acrylic latex and polyurethane in an easy-to-use spray bottle.
Combine 1/3 cup (80 ml) bleach with 1 gallon (4 L) of water until well mixed. Apply this solution to the gap from which the caulk was removed. Use paintbrush or foam brush too apply the bleach solution. Let the solution sit on the caulk for about five minutes before disturbing it.
Paint remover will also soften most caulks (except silicone), but it can be a messy and dangerous job... plus it is guaranteed to remove the finish on the trim!
If you're trying to get rid of old silicone caulk, acetone can be a useful tool. Acetone is a strong solvent that can break down silicone, making it easy to remove.
WD-40 is very good at removing silicone sealant but just make sure to completely remove it from the surface before applying any new silicone sealant as they can react. All you need for cleaning up the WD-40 is a clean dry cloth and mineral spirit.
Chlorine Bleach
But with adequate ventilation and protective gear, you can use it as an effective way to remove mold from shower caulk, tile, and other non-porous surfaces. The bleach solution may roll off the caulk too quickly.
This not only gets rid of dust but also any other debris within the caulks. There are various cleaning agents that can be used to effectively clean caulks. Ammonia and bleach are toxic cleaning agents that very effective. Vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda are non-toxic cleaning agents.

Never caulk over damaged or moldy caulk.
Damaged, cracked, and worn caulk won't provide a firm surface for the top layer of caulk, often leading to cracks and damage in new caulk.
