Let's first tackle this in the Messages app. Go to Messages, select your text message thread, and tap on your contact's name. Toggle on Hide Alerts, and you're good to go.
Head into the Messages app on your device -> specific conversation thread. 2. Now, tap the name at the top and then turn on the toggle next to Hide Alerts. Make sure to tap on Done at the top right to confirm the action.
To do so, simply swipe left on the conversation thread you wish to archive and tap on “Archive”.

You can archive a text conversation, call, or voicemail from your Google Voice inbox without deleting it. If someone replies to a conversation you archived, the messages show up in your inbox. Touch and hold the conversation, call, or voicemail you want to archive.
If you are using Google Contacts on a standard Android device, you can't hide contacts in the Google Contacts app, but you can hide contacts from the Google Contacts website.
