Graduates who achieve a course weighted average equal to or greater than 80.00 will be considered to have achieved outstanding performance in their course and will be granted an award with distinction upon completion of their degree.
GPA of 6 and 7 are considered as an excellent score in Australian universities and among Australian employers. GPA of 6 or 7 means Distinction or Higher Distinction.
In this case, the award is determined by the overall grade-point average. Students who rank in the upper 10 percent of their graduating class graduate with distinction. The upper third of those awarded distinction graduate with highest distinction.
Students in degree programs who have achieved an overall average of 80% and no grade lower than 70% on the entire program with no failed courses will graduate “with distinction.” Notes: Students who qualify for Graduation “With Distinction” will receive the designation on diplomas, transcripts and reports.
When it comes to several universities, getting a GPA grading score that ranges from 70 to 84% means a distinction, and it is regarded as a good GPA score.
D – Distinction
This grade is typically allotted to students who receive between 75% and 84%. It means that you have fulfilled the learning requirements and have conveyed a high-level understanding of the course materials.
The most common formula for an Australian GPA is the sum of grade points x course unit values /the total number of credit points endeavoured. The grades then get converted into numbers like this: High Distinction = 7. Distinction = 6. Credit = 5.
Distinction: A superior performance; mark range 75-84. Indicates that the student has demonstrated superior ability to consider the course and its assessment requirements from a number of perspectives and to explore their interrelation.
For most universities or colleges, earning a grading score between 75 and 84 per cent is a Distinction (D) grade, the second-best Grade.
The Honours Award recognizes those students who have obtained an average mark of 80.0% to 84.9% in their course of studies in each of grades 9-12. The Honours with Distinction award recognizes those students who have obtained an average mark of 85% to 100% in their course of studies in each of grades 9-12.
Generally, the highest honor in college is the valedictorian, followed by the salutatorian. As a group, the highest honor is summa cum laude. The next highest is the magna cum laude, and the third is the cum laude.
The highest academic distinction is summa cum laude, followed by magna cum laude and cum laude.
70% and above: Distinction. 60 – 69%: Merit.
Once you have finished your Master's degree, your credits will then translate into either a Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail. Different universities may have different boundaries but as a general rule: Distinction – 70%+ Merit – 60-69%
High Distinction
This band should really be 85-90, as many degrees have scaled subjects to ensure that students don't get the satisfaction of going home with a mark above 90. High distinctions are elusive, with some subjects allowing just 3 per cent of students winning one.
In short, the number of students and even the percentage will vary from class to class or university to university. However, about 5%- 25% of each class are roughly expected to get the top grade – a distinction.
Distinction* (D*) – equivalent in the Ucas tariff to an A* at A-level. Distinction (D) – equivalent to an A. Merit (M) – equivalent to a C. Pass (P) – equivalent to an E.

75% is a distinction in university and college. If you want to get a distinction for Matric, you must obtain a mark of 80% or higher.
Distinction grade equivalent to A Level grade between B and C (225 points). Formerly equivalent to A grade – 270 points.
Distinction: much like a First at undergraduate level, a Distinction is awarded when you achieve a percentage grade of 70% and above. Merit: you'll be awarded a Merit if you achieve a grade average between 60-69%. Pass: a pass is awarded when you receive a grade average between 50-59%.
