In our experience, the most effective filler for treating the marionette line is either Juvéderm Ultra Plus® or Radiesse®, depending on the depth and configuration of the marionette lines.
Dermal fillers are applied to the marionette lines and the corners of the mouth. This hides the shadow between the 2 areas creating a flatter shape. This smoothens out the marionette lines and reduces the appearance of the jowls.
Botox is useful for relaxing the muscles that pull down the corners of the mouth, while dermal fillers are the “go-to” treatment for erasing marionette lines because they are more effective in adding volume to the lower parts of the face. Doctors may also recommend combining both treatments to achieve the best results.
Some dermal fillers have been studied to last close to two years. The three fillers that tend to last the longest are Restylane Lyft, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Refyne, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse, and Sculptra. Restylane Defyne is built for balance and used in the nasal labial folds and marionette lines.
Dо Marionette Lines Filler Treatments Hurt? The injection of the anti-wrinkle dermal filler is not painful. A topical anaesthetic is applied before the treatment to minimise any discomfort. You may feel some pressure during the injections but no pain.
Placing filler along the jawline or adding filler in your cheeks can lift your jowls, give your skin a boost, and smooth fine lines around your face. As the filler restores volume into the midface area, the skin will lift from your lower face to give you a more prominent and symmetrical jawline.
That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
Cost of dermal filler in marionette lines:
Typically 1-2mls at least are required. Some patients will require more than this.
A Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Filler for cheeks will work for jowl correction. Specifically, HA Filler injections can replenish lost Hyaluronic Acid and restore volume in the treatment area. Brands of HA Fillers include Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero. Each brand offers a family of formulations.
For moderate to severe marionette lines, dermal fillers can be injected into the corner of the jaw. This pulls away, or lateralizes, the fullness around the mouth resulting from fatty atrophy. As a result, the folds around the corners of the mouth are pulled away from the corner of the mouth.
The “gold standard” to fix marionette folds is to have a surgical facelift. This is because surgically pulling the folds back from the mid-face area and above is the best way to fix them.
Facial fillers are a top treatment choice for eliminating jowls as they can be used to rebuild the structure of the face whilst rebooting the skin's natural supply of hyaluronic acid and smoothing the jawline.
Botox reduces sagging jowls by tightening and lifting the jaw area. This pulls back the excess sagging skin that creates jowls in the first place.
Treating lines around the mouth such as laugh lines or marionette lines typically requires one to two syringes on each side for full correction. Replacing lost volume in the cheeks often requires the most amount of filler, given the large area. Our patients typically need two to three syringes for each cheek.
Like foundation, concealer will even out your skin. If your purpose is to hide marionette lines, dab your liquid concealer into the area around your mouth using a concealer brush or your finger until it has completely absorbed. Lastly, apply a setting powder all around your face using a large makeup brush.
Bruising and swelling is the most common side effect of dermal filler. Swelling is occasionally asymmetrical due to hyaluronic acid being unpredictable- meaning water may be absorbed more in certain areas. These lumps should subside within 2 weeks. Delayed onset of nodules is possible but rare.
RF microneedling is wonderful for tightening and rejuvenating the skin to smooth away lines. Facial filler injections can be used to plump under the lines and Botox® injections can relax the muscles to erase mouth corner lines.
Chewing gum for about 5 to 20 minutes regularly helps to decrease facial wrinkles. This is because chewing exercises improve blood circulation and results in unblemished bylines and smoother skin.
