Kangaroos typically sleep during the day in shady spots like under trees, often resting on their sides or backs, sometimes using their limbs to prop up their heads, much like humans do. They create comfortable resting depressions in the dirt, and while most ground-dwelling kangaroos rest horizontally, tree-kangaroos sleep upright in trees. They are mainly nocturnal or crepuscular, becoming active at night to graze.
Koala – 22 hours
Found only living in Australia, they mainly live in the eucalyptus trees and spend around 22 hours of their time sleeping (90%).
Tree-kangaroos are nocturnal and they spend the daylight hours sleeping hunched over in a sitting position high in tree canopies. Living in high rainfall areas, tree-kangaroos need to be able to stay dry.
Most scientists agree that the most likely reason why 17-year cicadas spend so long underground is to avoid predators. By coming to the surface in such a large group, some cicadas get eaten but many cicadas will survive.
The dingo, a wild dog introduced into Australia, is the only enemy of the kangaroo, except for humans. A natural predator used to be the Tasmanian wolf, but this has become extinct (although reports of sightings crop up from time to time).

Female kangaroos and other marsupials have a unique reproductive system. They have three vaginas—two for carrying sperm to two separate uteri and one solely for giving birth. Each uterus can support an embryo, allowing overlapping pregnancies. This means a female can be pregnant while also nursing a joey in her pouch.
If the kangaroo does attack:
Giraffes are known for their unique sleeping habits, requiring only 5 to 30 minutes of sleep in a 24-hour period.
Studies have observed REM sleep in a variety of mammals, including monkeys, dogs, and cats, as well as in some birds and reptiles. This suggests that dreaming is not exclusive to humans but is a widespread phenomenon in the animal kingdom.
ALPINE SWIFT
Alpine swifts are one of the most extreme examples when asking what animal never sleeps. These airborne endurance champions spend up to 200 days in flight without landing. Instead of traditional sleep, they rely on micro-sleeps while gliding. This allows them to rest without stopping.
Dragonflies are some of the coolest and longest-living animals around, and they've been fascinating us for a very long time—about 406 million years, to be exact!
It's part of their defense mechanism as they do not make the same “screaming” noises as the males. The males will call (they produce this sound using something called tymbals ) when picked up. But specifically when they are flicked or run into something they might just be stunned (both males and females).
According to the Guinness Book of Records in 2017, the elephant is the animal that sleeps the shortest. It only dozes for two hours a day. However, a scientific study from 2021 shows that the elephant seal only sleeps one hour a day.
Additionally, jerboas have large ears to help them detect the slightest sound, which could be an approaching predator. They get their water from the plants and insects they eat, going their entire three-year lifetime without drinking liquid water.
