An injection technique that uses fewer incisions, therefore creating fewer "holes" in the "hose," will be less likely to result in migration, says Dr. Durairaj. Creating fewer punctures on the border of the lip is always the cleanest and best technique, she adds.
How Long Does Lip Filler Migration Last? The good news is fillers are only semi-permeant. Depending on how recently the filler was injected, the migration will last approximately 6-18 months. During that time your body will naturally metabolize and break the filler down over time if left alone.
Filler Massage
The product will remain somewhat malleable for about a month after it has been injected. If you think that your filler has migrated to unwanted areas or isn?t as smooth as you? d like, massage is always an option.
Although hyaluronic acid fillers are noted to have higher rates of migration, it is important to note that all injectables have the potential to migrate and naturally have a small degree of displacement and tissue integration after treatment.
“If the results of migration are too unsettling, the filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.” An enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid gels, hyaluronidase can be injected to counteract any migrated hyaluronic acid-based fillers. This isn't a DIY situation though or something to be taken lightly.

Frank says the best way to deal with migration is to dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid gels). In just a few hours, hyaluronidase softens the filler and returns the lips to a more natural shape, projection, and size.
So while the body naturally breaks them down over time, there is a way to speed up the process: Injections of hyaluronidase. Wrong Choice Of Filler
A migrated lip filler may also result from a faulty decision of your injector when it comes to choosing dermal filler for lips. An aesthetic practitioner is always armed with a variety of products of different viscosities and thickness.
"Theoretically, all filler has the ability to migrate," says Dr. Diamond. "That is why it is so imperative that non-surgical injectable services are performed by experts with the anatomical knowledge to prevent this from happening.
Fortunately, dermal fillers work very quickly, and you won't have to wait twelve months to see the full benefits of your injections. That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.

You should massage after having injectable filler in areas where the skin is thinner, such as the lips or lower eyelids, but massaging too much and in other areas could actually break down the filler, resulting in less volume. Or it may cause filler migration.
Heat exposure is also important to avoid, particularly heat from hot water, showers, saunas, hot tubs, and tanning beds. Intense heat on the skin can make your filler break down more quickly or produce less effective results.
If the filler is in a location further away from direct blood flow than other locations, then this means that cells that secrete hyaluronidase will not be able to reach the hyaluronic acid gel, and will therefore be unable to dissolve it.
Facial filler migration is a term that refers to the process by which a facial filler is injected into one place but moves or “migrates” to another. However, it must be stressed, however, that filler does not migrate from one area of the body to another.
In reality, 0.5ml can be too much too. There is no arbitrary amount of filler over which it is too much or under which it is too little. Too much filler injected close to the vermillion border can result in migration of the filler into the area above it.

In reality, fillers take up to four weeks to “settle,” according to Healthline. Different types of fillers can settle more quickly, and your lifestyle and similar factors can also affect the amount of time it takes to settle.
Blood thinners include aspirin, NSAID pain relievers and even alcohol. Avoiding blood thinners in the 24 hours following your treatment helps prevent bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Like blood thinning medication, alcohol should also be avoided after injection.
People with higher metabolisms will experience shorter filler results because their bodies will break the filler compound down faster than those with slower metabolisms. The same goes for other treatments such as BOTOX® and Dysport®.
