To minimize YouTube on your iPhone and use other apps, enable Picture-in-Picture (PiP) in both your iPhone's Settings and the YouTube app settings (under General > Playback), then play a video and swipe up from the bottom of the screen to exit the app; the video will shrink to a small, movable window, allowing you to multitask, but remember you usually need YouTube Premium for this on mobile, notes Google Help and Reddit users, with the feature requiring iOS 15.0 or later for the best experience.

With Picture in Picture, you can watch a video or use FaceTime while you use other apps. in the video window. The video window scales down to a corner of your screen so you can see the Home Screen and open other apps.
It's because YouTube music doesn't allow playback while screen off. It's only a premium feature, provided by YouTube. Playback feature while screen off is only available for premium subscriptions.
If you want to manually change the size of your video player, simply adjust the size of your browser. You can also select the Theater mode button in the bottom corner of the video player to view your video in a large player without going into full screen, or the Miniplayer button to view in a smaller player.
YouTube has a “play in background” option, but you probably have to disable PiP in settings at the same time. Or just swipe the video off to the side of the screen where it doesn't show. You can also double tap the video to make it 1/4 the size and can still push it off the screen.
