To check if contacts are on your phone or SIM, open your Contacts app and look for Settings or Manage Contacts, then find options like Display settings, Import/Export, or Show SIM contacts, which let you filter or view contacts by storage location (SIM, Phone, Google, iCloud). Most modern phones default to the cloud (Google/iCloud) or device storage, with SIM storage being limited and less common now.
Does a SIM card hold contacts? In the past, a SIM card could hold up to 250 contacts. However, most modern phones store your contacts in cloud storage or on the device itself.

Now you can transfer your contacts into your new phone using your old SIM. If you're transferring to a new Android phone, insert the old SIM and open Contacts, then Settings > Import/Export > Import from SIM card. If you're transferring to a new iPhone, go to Settings > Contacts and then Import SIM contacts.

Removing a SIM card while your phone is still powered on is like trying to change a tire on a moving car – it's risky, and things could go awry. By powering off your device, you ensure a stable and controlled environment for the SIM card extraction mission.
To export all contacts, use the built-in export feature in your contact app (like Google Contacts, Outlook, or iPhone) to save them as a single file (VCF or CSV) for backup or transfer to another service, usually found in Settings or Import/Export menus, often selecting all contacts and choosing a file format like Google CSV or vCard for download.
Users often face charging failures and SIM card recognition issues when switching phones with the same carrier. If your current phone won't charge, you can still use your existing SIM card in a new phone. Simply power off the old device, remove the SIM card carefully, and insert it into the new phone's SIM slot.
