Lydia demonstrated faithfulness through her openness to God's Word, immediately believing the gospel, getting baptized with her household, and showing radical hospitality by hosting Paul and his companions, turning her home into the first church in Europe and using her business influence to support missionary work, integrating faith and daily life.

Acts 16:13-15 Lydia Lydia was a rich merchant woman who served God and gathered on the Sabbath with other women to pray, encourage each other and to learn. A woman who heard about Christianity, wanted to know more and sought God. Then Paul came by. She heard, her heart was opened and she chose to be baptized.

The Ancient Kingdom of Lydia existed from around 1180-547 B.C.E. The capital of Lydia was Sardis. Although Lydian empires were in existence prior, these dates are often given as the peak era when Lydians would make their mark in history. The Lydians belonged to a race of people strongly influenced by the Hittites.
Lydia was a business woman who made and sold the expensive purple fabric, but she was also a worshiper of God. Since she was a Gentile, her exposure in a traditional synagogue would have been severely limited, but here at the riverbank she had found a place to belong.
There are many women who served as leaders in the first churches and some are named in the Bible. Priscilla (wife) and Aquila (husband) were commended by Paul as co-pastors of a house church in Corinth and probably she was the stronger leader because usually her name is mentioned first.
She represents all the women who helped build the early church, even though we don't always hear their names. Lydia had already been searching for God before she met Paul. The Bible calls her a "worshiper of God," which means she believed in the God of Israel but wasn't fully Jewish yet.
Luke calls her “a dealer in purple cloth” and a God fearer or worshipper of God. Lydia was a successful businesswoman who sold luxury textiles dyed purple. It was only the wealthy who wore garments dyed purple or had purple furnishings in their homes.
In scripture there are several examples of faithful men: Abraham (Gal. 3:9), Moses (Num 12:7), Samuel (1 Sam 2:35), David (1 Sam 22:14), Hezekiah (2 Chron 31:20), Daniel (Dan 6:4), Timothy (1 Tim 1:12), and our great example Jesus (Rev 1:5).
The best way to share your faith is by becoming a friend first. Take time to ask about your co-workers' lives, their family, and their own beliefs. Listen to their answers and show that you respect them. If a coworker mentions that unexpected events are leading to uncomfortable outcomes, offer to pray for them.
God's grace is still faithful even though we continue to sin. The Apostle Paul reminds us that even “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.” God is always working in our lives, but if we don't spend time tuning our hearts to His voice, we will miss when He speaks.
Lydia was a woman of firsts. She was the first European gentile convert to Christianity, and she was the first member of the church in Philippi. We see her again in the text in Acts 16:40 when Paul and his friends return to her home once more before continuing on their journey across Greece.
According to the story in Acts, Lydia was a prominent business woman and a dealer in purple cloth. When she listened to Paul refer to Jesus as the true Son of God and the living Lord and Savior, the Lord opened Lydia's heart. (Acts 16:14) The spiritual heart is different from the physical heart.
Lydia's response to the gospel was immediate and comprehensive. She and her entire household were baptized, and she insisted that Paul and his companions stay at her home: "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at home" (Acts 16:15).
