Clarke survived the six years after Praimfaya because she injected herself with Nightblood, a genetic modification giving immunity to the lethal radiation that destroyed the planet, allowing her to live in the valley with a young Nightblood girl named Madi. Her friends went to space, while she stayed behind to power a satellite and was stranded, but her Nightblood saved her from the death wave that followed.
In Praimfaya, the death wave devastates the planet with the only survivors being Wonkru in the Second Dawn Bunker, Spacekru who escapes into space to the Go-Sci Ring, and Clarke who takes shelter in Becca's lab and survived the radiation due to her Nightblood.
Clarke remains behind to power up the Ark remotely, missing her chance to escape as the death wave arrives. Six years later, Clarke's Nightblood is revealed to have saved her from the death wave and she has adopted a young Nightblood named Madi, the only other survivor Clarke could find on the planet.
In Season 4, Clarke injects herself with more Nightblood, i.e. Luna's blood marrow, as part of Abby's research into alternate survival plans for Praimfaya. Apparently, this made her a proper Nightblood, giving Clarke the ability to survive the radiation that Praimfaya unleases on the planet.
In Perverse Instantiation (Part 2), Clarke, with Abby's help, utilized an exchange transfusion, similar to the ones done at Mount Weather, to replace her blood with Ontari's. This transfusion allowed Clarke to temporarily become a Nightblood and accept the Flame.
Clarke was not permitted to transcend due to her killing Bill Cadogan during the test. Thirteen of her friends chose not to transcend so Clarke would not remain alone. Because of their decision, they will be unable to transcend later, instead death will be their end.

Russell then reveals that he intends to turn Echo into a Nightblood and use her as Simone's host. He orders Ryker to oversee the procedure. Once the Nightblood serum is ready, Ryker injects Echo with it, turning her into a Nightblood.

Nulls and Oblation
People who do not carry the gene are referred to as "Nulls". Because Nulls cannot bear Hosts (a child with black blood), they are discriminated against in Sanctum. Josephine Lightbourne calls Nulls "less than useless" because they "dilute the bloodline".
Clarke acts like a mother towards Madi and is willing to protect Madi regardless of costs. During season 5, Clarke lied towards a lot of people, including allies, to protect Madi. She told everyone that Madi was made a Nightblood by a bone marrow transfer instead of the truth, that Madi has been born a Nightblood.
Simple! The reapers and grounders have evolved from the surviving humans who didn't die in the nuclear war and those who then didn't die from radiation reproduced over time. Those who have survived dealt with radiation and their bodies can process it.
In the second season, they seem to grow closer until Clarke mercy-kills Finn. They are able to repair their friendship when Raven sees what Finn could have gone through and they will gradually truly care about each other. When Clarke irradiates Mount Weather, Raven is one of the rescued Sky People.
The Nuclear Apocalypse, also known as Praimfaya (Trigedasleng) or Apocalypse One, was a catastrophic event which took place in 2052, 97 years before the start of The 100 series. It began when the Artificial Intelligence A.L.I.E. instigated a global nuclear exchange.
After Gabriel tried to remove her from Clarke, Josephine's mind was able to avoid downloading back into the Mind Drive by using the neural mesh as Clarke's mind did when the Mind Drive was first implanted into her. As a result, Josephine was able to exist within Clarke without her Mind Drive.
Nightblood, originally called Black Blood, is a genetic trait that makes people resistant to radiation and is expressed through black blood. Nightblood did not occur naturally but rather is a result of genetic engineering.

In Season Six, Octavia is exiled by Bellamy for her actions after their arrival on Sanctum. Originally teaming up with Diyoza to hunt the Children of Gabriel, Octavia is healed by the Temporal Anomaly and recognizes a desire to seek redemption for her actions and move on from being Blodriena.
Ontari was a recurring character during the third season. She was portrayed by actress Rhiannon Fish and debuted in "Watch the Thrones". Ontari was a Nightblood from the Ice Nation and after Lexa's death came to Polis in order to become the next Commander.
Unbeknownst to the Republic, Echo actually survived but was gravely injured as he was taken prisoner by Separatist forces, where he was sold to the foreman, Wat Tambor. Echo was kept alive by being turned into a cyborg, albeit at the cost of his consciousness.
Clarke Griffin is the first being to have ever committed murder in the test. Because of this, the Judge does not allow her to transcend.

His body goes limp in Clarke's arms and it is not until Clarke pulls away that it is revealed she had used the knife Raven gave her to kill Lexa to instead mercy-kill Finn. Finn's death shakes Clarke, and he appears as a grief-induced hallucination several times over the course of "Remember Me".
