How can you tell if someone has read your text without read receipts? Two blue check marks mean the message has been read. You can press and hold the message to see what time it was read if you really need to. If the two check marks stay gray, the recipient may have turned read receipts off.
Message Read Receipts on Android
You can turn it on in your messaging app Settings. Click directly on Multimedia Messages, Text Messages, or open More Settings to see these options. Then, tap Chat Features to turn on Send read receipts. Once it is turned on, the checkmarks in your previous conversations will change.
A delivered text message status does not necessarily mean that the recipient reads the message. It simply means that the message was received by their device and is stored in their memory. The recipient may still choose not to read or open the message, even though it has been delivered successfully.
If an Android user has blocked you, Lavelle says, “your text messages will go through as usual; they just won't be delivered to the Android user.” It's the same as an iPhone, but without the “delivered” notification (or lack thereof) to clue you in.

If you send a message as a regular SMS in the green text bubble and you do not get a “Delivered” notification but instead get a notification similar to “Message not Delivered” or no message at all, that means you were probably blocked.
However, the person you've been blocked by will never receive that message. Note that you don't get a 'Delivered' notification like you usually would, but this in itself is not proof that you've been blocked. They could simply not have any signal, or an active internet connection, at the time you sent the message.
If you see a green message bubble instead of a blue one, then that message was sent using MMS/SMS instead of iMessage. There are several reasons for this: The person that you sent the message to doesn't have an Apple device. iMessage is turned off on your device or on your recipient's device.
Android users may determine if someone has blocked their number by checking notifications. If the “sent” icon changes to “delivered,” the receiver is likely not blocked you. On the other hand, if it stays on “sent,” there's a good chance they have blocked your number.
Android phones move all blocked messages into a folder on the phone called “Spam and Blocked.” That means that the phone is still collecting messages from the blocked people; they just aren't notifying you.
If the chat bubble is green, that could indicate someone has blocked you, especially if your chats with this person used to be blue. However, this is only true if both of you use iMessage on iPhones. If the other person switched to an Android phone, their bubble may have turned green (plus, they may have a new number).
Perhaps the most simple is the best one: use a different phone to call the person who blocked you. Phones can't block people as there's no way for them to know who is on the other end of the line. All they can do is block specific numbers.
Read receipts can be disabled within the Chat settings in Messages. If someone has read receipts disabled, the feedback won't appear next to the messages.
What Happens if You Turn Read Receipts Off? If you turn read receipts off, the senders will not know if you opened their messages. Also, with read receipts off, you cannot know if the recipients opened your messages.
According to dating coach James Preece, read receipts can give rise to a number of problems in relationships because they amplify mismatches in communication preferences. “One person might assume that by purposefully not replying, you are hiding something or keeping secrets," he told The Independent.
When you Ignore a chat thread, even though you will receive all the messages, the Messenger will mark them as Sent only and not Delivered. You will see a hollow blue circle with a checkmark inside to indicate Sent, and a filled-in blue circle shows it as Delivered.
