Hormonal imbalances have caused lionesses to grow manes, a trait usually reserved for male lions that have reached puberty, and there are some uncommon instances of cats being born with both male and female sex organs, known as hermaphrodite cats.
Though it is exceptionally rare for cats to be born with no reproductive organs whatsoever, there have been a few documented cases of kittens born with a mixture of sexual anatomy, commonly known as “hermaphrodite” cats.
It can be difficult to tell what sex a kitten is when it is small. As kittens grow this process gets easier. In female cats, the anus and vulva openings are close together and look like the letter 'i'. In a male cat, there are small testicles under the anus and the penis is below these.
A male cat will have an anus, scrotum, and penis, while a female cat will have only an anus and urinary tract opening. In an entire (or tom) cat, the scrotum is covered with fur and contains two testicles, each typically ranging in size from the size of cherry pits to actual cherries.

It's a common misconception that orange cats are always male. However, around 80% of them are. The color of a cat's fur depends on genetics linked to their sex, so orange cats inherit their color from their mother, with female cats needing orange genes from both parents rather than one.
Black cats tend to be male.
