Tom Buchanan Since the early days of his marriage to
Emotional Recklessness. The pair are just as cavalier with each other's emotions as they are with everyone else's. Tom starts cheating on Daisy early on in their marriage (on their honeymoon!), assuming that because she is so weak and passive, Daisy won't leave him.
Daisy Buchanan is married to Tom Buchanan, and Tom continuously cheats on her with other women. Daisy is aware of what is happening and she has to sit there and listen to Tom tell people about it.
Tom Buchanan Timeline
Daisy marries Tom Buchanan in June 1919. On their honeymoon, he has his first affair. In 1920, Daisy gives birth to Pammy, and the Buchanans move to France for a year, before coming back to Chicago, and then to East Egg. In the spring of 1922, Tom starts an affair with Myrtle Wilson.
For example, Tom is entirely comfortable lying. He maintains a mistress, lying to Daisy about his phone calls. And it turns out that he is lying to Myrtle as well, telling her that the reason he can't divorce his wife is that Daisy is a Catholic.
"I never loved him," she said, with perceptible reluctance. "Not at Kapiolani?" demanded Tom suddenly. "No." From the ballroom beneath, muffled and suffocating chords were drifting up on hot waves of air.
Tom calls Gatsby crazy and says that of course Daisy loves him—and that he loves her too even if he does cheat on her all the time. Gatsby demands that Daisy tell Tom that she has never loved him. Daisy can't bring herself to do this, and instead said that she has loved them both.
Myrtle believes that the only reason Tom will not divorce Daisy is because Daisy is Catholic. But we learn that Tom's feelings for Myrtle are far less intense than he has led her to believe and that social pressure prevents him from ever leaving Daisy, who comes from a similar upper-class background.
Throughout the novel he commits adultery with Myrtle Wilson, a working-class woman married to a garage mechanic. Tom uses Myrtle in a cynical way, buying her presents but telling her lies, and when she drunkenly repeats Daisy's name he breaks her nose.
But Daisy couldn't wait for Gatsby, “She wanted her life shaped now, immediately - and the decision must be made by some force - of love, of money, of unquestionable practicality - that was close at hand.” Dasiy was conflicted, but ended up choosing the secure life of fortune and “practicality” by marrying Tom.
Though Gatsby insisted that Daisy never loved Tom, Daisy admitted that she loved both Tom and Gatsby. The confrontation ended with Daisy leaving with Gatsby in his yellow car, while Tom departed with Nick and Jordan.
Daisy, who doesn't know Myrtle, is driving the car when it strikes Myrtle down; Daisy doesn't even stop to see what happened, and escapes without consequences. The lower class characters – Gatsby, Myrtle, and George – are thus essentially sacrificed for the moral failings of the upper class characters of Tom and Daisy.
Answer: In "The Great Gatsby," Daisy chooses Tom over Gatsby because Tom represents stability and security to her. Although she is in love with Gatsby, he is seen as a risky choice, and she ultimately decides to stay with Tom, who represents the status quo.
Daisy Buchanan Character Analysis
She marries for money and her parents, also well off, approve of this marriage. But Tom Buchanan is not very warm and caring, and he is having an affair. Though she tries to put on a happy appearance, Daisy is unhappy. She drinks in the daytime and tries to mask her sadness.
But Daisy can never be happy with Tom because when she married him, she objectified him into the things he gave her; the expectations of Tom that she constructs in her head are mostly made of the gifts she has received, rather than Tom's actual personality and morals.
Daisy, like her husband, has an affair but, she cheats on Tom with Gatsby. She slowly starts to lose faith in humanity and starts to see the world as a very bad place. She wishes for her daughter to not see the world for what it is.

Tom and Daisy both show corruption through selfishness in similar ways. They both cheat on each other and do not even think to wonder how this will affect the other. They believe they are above others in society because of their money and use it to their advantage.
Tom also controls people by not letting them speak, think, and act for themselves. During the confession of the relationship between Gatsby and Daisy, Tom says “[Daisy's] not leaving [him]” without letting Daisy have a say in anything that is happening (142). Daisy without a say or opinion is seen as property.
Their love affair makes Gatsby optimistic that Daisy is his true love, but he really only sees and loves an idealized version of her that he has carried for years. In the end, Daisy chooses to stay with her husband even when knowing he had also had an affair.
Gatsby is only in love with Daisy because of her identity and what she represents. He is unable to forget the past where Daisy once saw him as a perfect man in her eyes and can't accept his new reality. Gatsby's want of wealth and power only proves that he only loves the idea of her and not actually her.
Does Daisy divorce Tom? By the end of the novel, after Daisy's murder of Myrtle as well as Gatsby's death, she and Tom are firmly back together, "conspiring" and "careless" once again, despite the deaths of their lovers.
Although it might appear that Tom and Daisy "forgive" each other, the reality is that they simply choose to ignore each other's transgressions. Forgiveness plays no role in their actions or their marriage.
Eventually, Gatsby won Daisy's heart, and they made love before Gatsby left to fight in the war. Daisy promised to wait for Gatsby, but in 1919 she chose instead to marry Tom Buchanan, a young man from a solid, aristocratic family who could promise her a wealthy lifestyle and who had the support of her parents.
Is Gatsby Richer than Tom? While both characters are rich, it is implied in the novel that Tom has more money. However, at that time, what most people cared about was how you would get your money. Gatsby is still involved in organized crime secretly- meaning that he is technically working to keep his status.
