It makes sense that you want to wipe them out the moment you spot them in your house. However, this might be the beginning of your troubles. Killing ants will, definitely, attract more ants because the dead ants release pheromones that attract or rather alert, nearby ants.
If you kill the ants as they appear, there is no way to reach the rest of the colony. This is why ants keep showing up. You can't just kill the ants you see, we have to take down the whole colony.
It is advised not to squash ants, doing so will only release pheromones and trigger more ants to come to the location and cause more trouble to you and your family. Ants are known to pack a deadly bite that causes excruciating pain for a short time.
Ants become the pallbearer
After a few days the dead ant is carried off and placed on the “ant graveyard” by the other dead ants. This may seem like ants have complex feelings and need a few days to grieve before they dispose of the body, but in reality it's far more chemical than that.
Therefore, you should not clean up the dead ants so that you can identify their nest. Have you noticed an indoor ant nest? Tracking or trailing to a nest in your home is very crucial. Their presence in your home means food and water contamination as well as structural damage.

For permanent control, you need to get rid of the whole colony, including the queens and grubs that are growing into the next generation of worker ants. Slow-acting pesticides that ants don't recognize as poison can do this.

Ant colonies have specialised undertakers for the task. They usually carry their dead to a sort of graveyard or take them to a dedicated tomb within the nest. Some ants bury their dead. This strategy is also adopted by termites forming a new colony when they can't afford the luxury of corpse carriers.
Vacuuming IS Recommended, Especially for Carpenter Ants
Bug experts (entomologists) recommend eliminating carpenter ants by sucking them up with a regular home appliance. Carpenter ants are large, often a half-inch long, and black. If you're squeamish, seeing a carpenter ant might make you grab the vacuum.
"Mix equal parts of vinegar and water, place the mixture in a spray bottle, and spray on the ants directly," says Barrett. "The mixture will kill them and you can clean the area by collecting the dead ants using a wet wipe or damp cloth," they add.
Use this white vinegar solution to spray all entry points of your home, try to spry all windows, doors, baseboards and the common paths that ants would travel within your home. Give about an hour for this solution to take effect, then after a few hours the ants should be dead.
Peppermint is a natural insect repellant. You can plant mint around your home or use the essential oil of peppermint as a natural remedy for control of ants. Ants hate the smell, and your home will smell minty fresh! Plant mint around entryways and the perimeter of your home.
Ants hate the smell of strong citrus fruits. Save your orange, lemon and grapefruit peels and scatter them around entry points. It's a natural way to deter ants without harming them.
Why do ants bite? When ants feel threatened, they usually let out a bite or sting which feels different than those of the other insects, in particular. Having said that, these bites can be quite dangerous and even toxic in the case of ants of certain species.
Local reaction is the most common presentation following an ant bite/sting. It consists of localised pain, itch, redness, swelling, and induration. The swelling is usually less than 5 cm in diameter, and is sometimes urticarial (wealing). A local reaction lasts for less than 24 hours.
