Gwen Stacy dies in Ultimate Spider-Man #62. Before her death, she made peace with Mary Jane and assured her she never had romantic feelings for Peter. She considered him just as a friend.
Gwen likes Miles, which was especially noticeable in the 'Across the Spider-Verse' movie. In 'Into the Spider-Verse,' we see Miles having a crush on Gwen, and it seems he holds those feelings even a year after the collider incident.
Intellectually, Gwen and Peter were a great match, though that wasn't the only thing they had going for them. Once Peter started dating her, he was truly in love with Gwen which made her loss even more difficult for him to deal with.
She is unsure if her feelings for Miles are genuine or because of the glimpse of their alternate universe counterparts in Earth-8. So, while she leaves the possibility open for something between the two to happen in the future, she pumps the breaks for now.
Regardless, I believe Peter was caught up in the moment of fame when he was accepting the key to the city with Gwen showing his recognition. The crowd started to chant at Gwen, “Kiss him! Kiss him!” Peter, caught up in the moment, told Gwen it was ok and they should kiss (and so they did).

Crucially, though, for Spider-Man it meant a life in which he had married Gwen Stacy and started a family with her. Mary Jane was nothing more than a movie star who he crossed paths with every now and again.
Gwen Stacy is either 16 or 17 years old in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. She's played by Hailee Steinfeld, who's 26 years old. In the first movie, Miles was 14 years old and Gwen was 15 months older than him, making her at least 15, if not 16.

Mary Jane and Peter have one of the best relationships in comic history. It's a no-brainer that she's the greatest love of Spider-Man's life. Drew Dietsch has been professionally writing about entertainment for over a decade.
Nonetheless, following Gwen's death in "The Night Gwen Stacy Died" story arc, the heartbroken Mary Jane became more caring and empathetic, and eventually one of the few people to consistently know Peter's secret identity. This would result in the two falling deeply in love and eventually getting married.

When asked who she is while in costume, Gwen hesitates; Earth-616 already has a Spider-Woman. She settles on the name Ghost-Spider as an ode to her dead multiverse counterparts. After all, “Death loves Gwen Stacy.” Earth-616 proves to be a great place for Gwen.
By introducing Gwen into The Amazing Spider-Man film series, the production team knew that this character would have a finite existence – she isn't a part of regular Spider-Man comic book continuity and hasn't been since 1973. Put simply, if Gwen is to enter the Spider-Man movie mythology, then she is fated to die.
Gwen Stacy came first, created by Stan Lee, modeled on his beloved wife Joan. She was a staple of early issues of Amazing Spider-Man, until she was tragically killed by the Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man #125.
I always wondered why he did this in the movie. I thought he really loved Mary Jane, which obviously he does but it didn't stop him from making out with Gwen.

In ASM #41 Aunt Anna states Peter is nearly 20, meaning he was 19. If Peter was nearly 20 in ASM #41 then it makes sense that by ASM #121, Gwen Stacy's death, he'd definitely have become 20.
