Even if you are used to parting your hair on the side, the time has come to reap the benefits of the middle part. Try parting your hair in the middle and you'll immediately see how it starts looking longer.
Add Layers
By adding face-framing layers, your stylist can give you more volume and movement, which helps your hair appear longer. “Stay away from the blunt cut as this truly defines the actual length of your hair,” stylist David Babaii explained to StyleCaster.
Try a short hairstyle with volume in the top sections. Ideally, the sides of your hair should appear flatter than the crown area. Similar to the style for longer hair, it's the contrast between the volume on top and smoother side sections that creates the illusion of being taller than you actually are.
"A middle part gives a slimmer look," Bergamy adds. "For heart shape, it will balance features, such as your forehead or chin, while softening your cheekbones."

We do agree that if you have a really well-defined face, centre-parted hair can look fabulous on you! But with that, centre parting also adds years to your look, making you appear much more matured than you'd prefer.
In general, Farel says the best part depends on your face shape. “A side part overall complements strong cheekbones and good bone structure," he says. "Middle parts are ideal for an oblong shaped face and I believe add an illusion of roundness."
“A middle part will complement the symmetry of your face shape as well as elongate the face, and a side part will soften your features.” A middle part, Curtis says, can also help conceal certain hair concerns such as thinning and hair loss.
“It's best to keep hair longer, ideally past your collarbone, if you can,” says Polko, recommending opting for long layers, if any. “Round faces should typically stick to one- length hair and avoid round cuts and too many layers,” adds celebrity hairstylist Kim Kimble.
A middle part is the most flattering for those with round faces, as it will complement the symmetry of your face shape while also creating a bit of visual length. As a second option for times when you want to mix things up, a deep side part can have a lengthening effect, too!

In the case of long hair, both sexes prefer it because it is allegedly perceived as more attractive. This supposedly means that both males and females find women with long hair more attractive than those with short hair.
Long hair tends to look more slenderizing than short hair. If you have short hair, you can consider extensions and if you already have long hair, consider some of the other options listed above like adding texture and highlights to revamp your long locks.
Traditionally, women have preferred short hair on a man. Clean cut men with neatly cropped hairstyles are the oft-cited “ideal”. However, women tend to be less interested in a man's looks and more in his personality. In other words, with a winning personality, a guy can get away with whatever hairstyle he wants.
A square or oval face shape works best with long hair styles and a strong jawline should also make you consider whether a long hairstyle could be the look for you.
Will having long hair or short hair make me look younger? If you have medium to thick hair, a lengthier mane can give off an air of youthfulness. But if your hair leans thin, it's best to go with a cut that's mid-length or shorter to lend natural volume to your look.
The general consensus seems to be that parting on one's left makes a person look competent and masculine, whereas parting on the right makes a person look warm and feminine.
But why is Gen Z so obsessed with the middle part? A theory posed by The Cut is that the younger generation is more open to accepting flaws and they therefore feel less need to hide part of their face behind their hair.
We'll be seeing a resurgence of side parts in 2023, and we've already seen this for more glam looks. We're not leaving the middle part behind completely, we're just simply saying that you don't need to commit to either this year. You can use them both, and feel free to switch between the two styles.
The Gen Z argument is essentially that side parts are less flattering and make a person look older, so they're urging all millennials rocking side parts to do themselves a solid and reclaim their youth by achieving that elite scalp symmetry.
Round face shapes generally suit parts which create length rather than accentuating the roundness. So, visually lengthen your face by drawing more attention to the centre with a middle part or try a deep side part. Both styles will give the illusion of length and create symmetry around your face.
"Middle parts are great for more casual or bohemian looks," she says. If you're looking to switch depending on your face shape, she recommends sticking with the middle to elongate a rounder, longer, or more oval face shape. "It gives the face symmetry, so it's good for that," she says.
