Lizard eggs are similar to snake eggs in this way, and the majority of them are also soft and leathery. However, some lizard eggs are harder in nature, similar to bird eggsƒ. It depends on the species of lizard and the environments in which the lizard has laid their eggs in order for this to occur.
Most reptiles lay eggs with soft, leathery shells, but minerals in the shells can make them harder. Crocodilians and some kinds of turtles lay eggs with tough shells—more like a bird's egg. Female reptiles often build nests to protect their eggs until they are ready to hatch.

The major player in the equation is calcium. Once laid, an eggshell includes 2 grams of calcium. To get this level and still maintain strong bones, a hen requires 4 grams of calcium – all of which must come from her layer feed.

Lizards do breed in spring and early summer; however, it takes about 60 days for those eggs to hatch. Those hatchling lizards will not emerge and greet their new world until mid-summer to early fall.
Gecko eggs like many reptile eggs are not hard shelled like bird eggs. Rather they have a leathery exterior and give somewhat when handled. However, fertile and infertile eggs can in some instances feel distinctly different when they are picked up and examined.
This is because the egg white or “albumen” in a fresh egg has a relatively low pH level, making it acidic. When cooked, these fresh egg whites bond strongly to the inner shell's membrane. As an egg ages, the pH level rises and the inner membrane is less likely to bond to the albumen, so the shell peels off much easier.
A shell-less egg can be a sign of nutritional deficiencies, such as missing calcium, phosphorous, or vitamin E or D.
If the egg sinks and rests on its side, that is a very fresh egg. If it sinks but sits upright and bobs at the bottom of the bowl or cup, that egg is still fresh. It's just a bit older. Lastly, if the egg floats, that egg is no longer fresh.
Soft-shelled eggs aren't a problem merely because your hens aren't laying eggs that you can eat, but because a hen laying soft-shelled eggs may more easily become egg bound or suffer peritonitis.
If you soak this egg shell in vinegar (which is about 4% acetic acid), you start a chemical reaction that dissolves the calcium carbonate shell. The acetic acid reacts with the calcium carbonate in the egg shell and releases carbon dioxide gas that you see as bubbles on the shell.
Is it safe to eat speckled or bumpy eggs? The short answer is yes. There is certainly no need to discard any eggs with either of these physical abnormalities—it's also safe to eat expired eggs as well.
Oriental garden lizards lay about 10 - 20 eggs which hatch in about 6 weeks.
