Hemp smokes (such as hemp cigarettes or pre-rolls) will not get you "high" or intoxicated in the way that traditional marijuana does. The key difference lies in the level of the psychoactive compound delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
By law, hemp must contain 0.3% THC or less. At this minuscule level, it cannot get you high, even if you consume large amounts.
Smoking hempettes will not make you feel high. To be classified as federally legal hemp, it must contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. Instead of feeling “high” as you might with traditional marijuana, you may feel relaxed or a general sense of calm.
Depending on the strain, it can be either relaxing or energizing, and—thanks to the body buzz many report feeling after smoking—it's also just downright enjoyable and fun. That's because all the cannabinoids you hear about all the time—CBD, CBG, CBN, THC—are present in smoke-able hemp flower.
Hemp, on the other hand, contains large amounts of CBD and only trace amounts of THC. So, hemp extracts and CBD will not get you high, but they do offer the benefits of just CBD.
Hemp products are derived from the same species of cannabis plant as marijuana (Cannabis sativa L.). Hemp is essentially a “lower grade” cannabis subspecies with a smaller amount of naturally occurring THC (less than . 3% of Delta-9). This means that if you picked off the leaves and smoked them, you wouldn't get high.
While you're unlikely to fail a drug test after a single use, you may be more likely to test positive if you use CBD products often (daily for weeks or months) or at high doses. “Maybe the instructions say to use it one to three times a day, but they start using it six times a day,” says Matthew D.
Hemp typically has lower concentrations of total THC and may have higher concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD), which potentially mitigates the psychoactive effects of THC.
Calm and Relaxation: Most users report a deep sense of relaxation that washes over the body and mind. CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help regulate mood, promoting a calm, stress-free feeling.
The term “hemp” is used to designate cannabis containing 0.2% or less THC. Because the THC level in hemp is so low, it's unlikely to get you high, which makes hemp legal in the eyes of the law. Although hemp doesn't produce a significant amount of THC, it is capable of producing cannabidiol in high concentrations.
Several studies have found that, while some hemp products like CBD or CBG do not trigger positive drug tests, products that have small amounts of Delta-9-THC, even well below the legal limit of 0.3%, can cause a consumer to fail a drug test by testing positive for THC.
CBD does not get you high or cause significant impairment, but the idea that it's not psychoactive is something of a misconception. It does change your consciousness. You may feel mellow or sleepy, experience less pain, and be more comfortable.
Tobacco contains numerous harmful chemicals such as tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide, which are linked to serious health conditions like lung cancer, heart disease, and respiratory issues. Hemp, on the other hand, is naturally free from these harmful substances, making it a much safer alternative.
Intoxicating hemp products often have more THC than the legal limit (0.3% THC), an intoxicating milligram amount of THC in the product, or other lab-made cannabinoids, such as Delta-8 THC, Delta-10 THC, THC-O acetate, or THCP and can make you feel “high”.
The bottom line
Cannabis makes you hungry because it contains THC. This cannabinoid can make you think you're hungry, even if you're not. It can also make certain foods taste better. CBG may also have this effect.
Non flavored hemp cigarettes will smell the same as weed, but most likely not as potent. As mentioned before, hemp is more on the earthier side, whereas cannabis can have a more pungent smell. If you want to be sure that your CBD product won't smell like weed, look for products that are made with CBD Isolate.
Hemp's main active ingredient, CBD, is non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating. That said, smokable hemp does contain trace amounts of THC, and depending on your sensitivity and the amount of hemp that you smoke, you could conceivably feel intoxicated.
The duration of a cannabis high can vary widely, but typically, it lasts between one to six hours. More specifically, vaping tends to result in a quicker onset and shorter duration of high. Meanwhile, edibles take longer to take effect but can extend the experience significantly, lasting as long as eight hours.
As mentioned above, both hemp and medical Cannabis belong to the same plant species Cannabis sativa L. but are cultivated differently and vary in their phytochemical constituents [20]. In North America and most of Europe, the industrial hemp must not contain more than 0.3% THC in dried herbage [2,17,20,24].
On the other hand, hemp cigarettes are categorized by their extremely low THC content. The hemp plant used contains less than 0.3% THC, meaning it's non-psychoactive, mostly CBD, and won't make you high.
CBD oil itself is not screened for in drug tests, but THC contamination in unregulated products can result in a positive result — potentially affecting your job. Familiarise yourself with your employer's drug and alcohol policy.
Hemp smokes (also called hemp cigarettes or CBD cigarettes), are hemp flowers rolled into a discrete and convenient format. Because hemp smokes do not use cannabis flower with significant ∆9-THC content, they will not get you high like smoking a joint.
When smoked or vaporized, hemp flower provides a fast-acting way to experience its effects, as the cannabinoids are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs. Many people find that smoking hemp flower offers a more natural and enjoyable way to relax, without the intoxicating side effects of THC.
