Dust mites do not feed on the blood of humans as some other mites do. Although they may “hitchhike” on clothing, it is a myth that dust mites live on people.
Normal levels of face mites don't cause any symptoms. However, demodicosis can. Signs of demodicosis can come on quickly, even overnight. You may notice a patch of tiny whiteheads resembling acne around your eyes or nose.
This is the most common type of demodex mite. They tend to stay in the facial area, including your nose, cheeks, chin, eyelashes, eyebrows, and scalp. They might also be found on your neck and ears. They like to get inside the upper part of a hair follicle and survive on skin cells and oil.
It might give you the creepy-crawlies, but you almost certainly have tiny mites living in the pores of your face right now. They're known as Demodex or eyelash mites, and just about every adult human alive has a population living on them. The mostly transparent critters are too small to see with the naked eye.

The best option when trying to get rid of dust mites on your skin is to jump in the shower and thoroughly clean yourself with hot water and soap. The heat and soap should kill off any dust mites still on your body.
Treatment for a mite infestation usually involves a cream, gel, lotion or wash containing an acaricide. An acaricide is a pesticide that kills ticks and mites. Your healthcare provider may recommend: Benzyl benzoate.
Add Sulfur to Your Cleansing Routine
Turegano is a fan of sulphur-based cleansers to rid skin of demodex. Sulfur is a tried and true ingredient for getting rid of acne due to its antimicrobial properties,5 which make it effective against the accumulation of face mites.
So, to recap: As dust mites chow down on human skin, they cause damage to the cells. People with dermatitis have immune systems that detect the products of the damage and react, causing itching and pain. Filaggrin, when present, can tamp down the response.
The six-legged larvae hatch after 3-4 days, and the larvae develop into adults in about 7 days. It has a 14-day life cycle[6] [Figure 2]. The total lifespan of a Demodex mite is several weeks. The dead mites decompose inside the hair follicles or sebaceous glands.
Demodex mites are common ectoparasites in human skin, the number of mites increases with age. Demodex mites are found in about one third of children and young adults, half of adults, and two-thirds of elderly people. The lower rate in children is probably caused by immature sebaceous glands.
As they can't protect themselves against UV radiation, the mites hide inside your pores during the day, coming out at night to feed and do the deed. At some point, the mites lost the gene to produce melatonin, which is the chemical that nocturnal animals use to keep themselves awake at night.
In the daytime they feed on our oily skin secretions, at night they leave the pore to find mates, and find new follicles in which to have sex and lay their eggs. If the thought makes you want to wash your face, forget it.
Face mites live in the pores on our faces, sucking skin secretions and evolving with us. Most people have face mites crawling over their skin.
Right now, deep in your hair follicles and sweat glands, tiny mites are feeding on dead skin cells, mating, and laying eggs. The microscopic arthropods, known as Demodex folliculorum, live on virtually all mammals—especially their faces—and cause no harm under most circumstances.
Dermatitis and demodex mites can feel like there is something crawling on the lashes or the lids.
Face mites don't penetrate inside the body and they only live within the skin and hair follicles. Face mites eat what is called sebum, the greasy oil our skin makes to protect itself from drying out. Washing your face will not get rid of them as they live under your pores.
Neem Oil
Neem oil is known to kill scabies mites, and it prevents their ability to grow and breed. Neem also numbs pain and relieves itching, making it perfect to treat scabies symptoms as well.
Essential oils contain compounds that repel or kill insects, including dust mites. The best essential oils for getting rid of dust mites are clove, rosemary, and eucalyptus oil. Add 20 drops of oil to four ounces of witch hazel, and spray your mattress, couch, drapes, and other dust mite hangouts.
Three most important functions to human life are heartbeat, breath and sleep. An active allergy to house dust mites (HDM) can interfere with breath and sleep. Wheezing, sneezing or itching, caused by an allergic reaction, is a known risk to sleep.
Their presence is no issue for most people, but if you are allergic to house dust mites, they can pose a big problem. If you experience recurrent impairment of sleep and have a tendency of feeling a bit ill most of the year, it might be because of allergy caused by house dust mites.
Dust mites are very small, insect-like pests that feed on dead human skin cells and thrive in warm, humid settings. Dust mites are too small for us to see. They are not parasites that bite, sting or burrow into our bodies.
