Yes, most changelings know they are shapeshifters, embracing their multiple identities and using personas as tools, but it's possible for some to lose themselves in a single role, forget their true nature (especially if raised in another race or with amnesia), or even suppress their abilities, becoming "passers" who stay in one form. Their shapeshifting is a core part of their being, as natural as smiling, and they often develop unique identifiers or personas to manage their shifting lives, though some may not recognize other changelings easily.
A common way that a changeling could identify itself is through displaying unusual behaviour when it thinks it is alone, such as jumping about, dancing or playing an instrument – though this last example is found only within Irish and Scottish legend.
It is very rare to actually see a changeling in it's 'true' appearance. Even when disguised, changelings can instinctively recognize each other.
The Archive of Disease in Childhood notes that the changeling is ``characterized by unresponsiveness, resistance to physical affection, obstreperousness, inability to express emotion, and unexplained crying and physical changes such as rigidity and deformity. Some are unable to speak.''
Though it takes several seconds, a changeling can change their form as often as they like and the new appearance lasts until they change again. If they die, their bodies revert to their natural forms. True seeing will also expose them.
The Traveler is the patron of all those who welcome change, in body and in philosophy. Its worshipers include changelings, shifters, doppelgangers, and lycanthropes, who see it as the greatest of gods, but only doppelgangers and lycanthropes routinely revere it.
Likewise, you can duplicate the appearance of a warforged, but you can't replicate armor—and most warforged are always wearing armor.
Appearance. In their true form, or their form "at rest", changelings have pale skin, colorless eyes that can be completely white or completely black, and white or silver-white hair.
Due to their unique biology Changelings do not have active fertile cycles. Instead, a Changeling actually makes a conscious decision to begin a fertile cycle that lasts for two days, but repeats the cycle every fifteen days.
Lightning: Changelings have a strange weakness that Dopplegangers do not--electricity. Any shock damage dealt to a Changeling can be lethal.
Changelings are amphibious creatures. They can breathe as easily in water (both salt and fresh) as they can in air. They can swim through water as easily as they can run on land.
This sounds like something that every DM is going to rule differently, but as blood type isn't part of "your appearance and your voice" (the things that Shapechanger explicitly lets you change), I would rule that no, you can't change your blood type as a changeling.
changeling, in European folklore, a deformed or imbecilic offspring of fairies or elves substituted by them surreptitiously for a human infant. According to legend, the abducted human children are given to the devil or used to strengthen fairy stock.
The short version is that a Changeling can shapeshift to a form that can produce sperm to impregnate someone, and can shapeshift to a form with a uterus and eggs to get pregnant, but a pregnant Changeling cannot shapechange to a form without a uterus without ending the pregnancy.
It lasts for as long as the changeling desires, even if unconscious or sleeping (although changelings do revert back to their natural form upon death). Anything that can see through or acts on a shapechanger's alternate forms applies to a changeling in the same manner.
Protective charms against changelings often including placing iron by the cradle, keeping a watchful eye on the infant, or using fire and holy water to drive away fairy magic.
46,XY pure gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer syndrome) is characterized by normal female genitalia at birth. It usually first becomes apparent in adolescence with delayed puberty and amenorrhea. Rarely, patients can present with spontaneous breast development and/or menstruation.
Powers & Abilities
In their human forms, the Changelings also appear to be immune to the effect of sunlight just like Stalklings, thus making them the perfect spies for the Gumm-Gumms. Some of them, like Stricklander and Nomura, are accomplished warriors.
Unlike ponies, changelings do not have cutie marks. Following their metamorphosis in To Where and Back Again - Part 2, changelings have varied coat colors and insect characteristics, such as Thorax and Pharynx's horns, and they no longer have fangs or holes in their bodies.
The two rarest eye colors are typically considered violet/red (often linked to albinism) and heterochromia, both occurring in less than 1% of people, with green and gray eyes also extremely uncommon. Violet and red hues result from very low melanin, making blood vessels visible, while heterochromia means having two different colored eyes or multiple colors in one eye.
Originally we all had brown eyes, however, according to researchers at the University of Copenhagen, it appears that a genetic mutation in a single individual in Europe 6,000 to 10,000 years ago led to the development of blue eyes.
Because of their +2 Charisma bonus, the best classes for changelings are Bard, Rogue, Paladin, Wizard, and Sorcerer.
The Grasp of the Emerald Claw adventure has a millennia-old warforged NPC. They're enchanted constructs, just like a golem. The oldest warforged is only 33 years old, and theoretically a warforged's body will wear out before its animating force is exhausted.
Same applies to limbs. Under this system, changelings could regrow lost limbs or hair, but it puts significant metabolic strain to do it (e.g. healing surges, needing a large meal, etc.).
Languages:Changelings speak Common, which allows them to move easily among humans and members of all other races. They often learn as many other languages as they can to facilitate a multitude of disguises.
