The Soviet Union launched numerous spacecraft to investigate Mars between 1960 and 1988. Some of these missions were partial successes, while others failed. By and large, the Soviets were much more successful exploring Venus than the "Red Planet." The Soviets launching at least seven missions to Mars during the 1960's.
Using a sophisticated landing system unmatched until later NASA missions like Pathfinder and Spirit, Mars 3 successfully landed on the Martian surface 50 years ago on December 2, 1971, becoming the first spacecraft to successfully complete a soft landing on another planet.
The first spacecraft to successfully land on Mars, Viking 1 was part of a two-part mission to investigate the Red Planet and search for signs of life.
Viking Orbiter 1 continued for four years and 1,489 orbits of Mars, concluding its mission August 7, 1980, while Viking Orbiter 2 functioned until July 25, 1978.
India was the first nation to successfully reach the Red Planet on its first attempt when the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as Mangalyaan, entered orbit in 2014.
Besides these two countries, only India, China, Japan, UAE, and European Space Agency have carried out Mars missions. While Japan launched its mission in 1998 and Europe launched in 2003, the remaining three carried out their missions only after 2010.
The very first nation to reach the surface of the moon was the USSR (Russia), whose unmanned spacecraft Luna 2 impacted the moon' surface on 12 September 1959. While Luna 2 was the first probe to land on the moon, it had been designed to crash-land into the surface (a "hard landing") rather than conduct a soft landing.

Most historians agree that the space race ended on 20 July 1969 when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Moon for the first time. As the climax of space history and exploration, the lunar landing led to a triumph for the US.
There have also been studies for a possible human mission to Mars, including a landing, but none have been attempted. Soviet Union's Mars 3, which landed in 1971, was the first successful Mars landing. As of May 2021, the Soviet Union, United States, and China have conducted Mars landings successfully.
China's Mars mission is part of its larger space infrastructure development geared toward achieving space dominance by 2049. It both augments China's technical space capacity and enhances the prestige, reputation, and credibility of its space program.
Mars has suspended investment and marketing in Russia and will donate any profits generated there to humanitarian causes. These things are significant but Mars has basically decided not to join those multinationals who have explicitly condemned Russia and suspended operations.
Because of Mars' very low atmospheric pressure, any water that tried to exist on the surface would quickly boil away. atmosphere as well as around mountain peaks. No precipitation falls however. At the Viking II Lander site, frost covered the ground each winter.
Some conditions would make it difficult for plants to grow on Mars. For example, Mars's extreme cold temperatures make life difficult to sustain. Sunlight and heat reaching that planet is much less than what the Earth gets. This is because Mars is about 50 million miles farther away from the sun.
Answer: From the table we see that Mercury has the greatest percentage of oxygen in its atmosphere.
Scientists want to know the duration of the habitable period; the longer it was, the more time there would have been for any potential Martian life to form. The new work extends the potentially habitable period on Mars by about 500 million years, into the late Hesperian age.
The closest recorded distance to Mars from Earth was recorded in August 2003 when the two were 34.8 million miles (56 million km) apart. According to NASA, the two will not be that close again until the year 2237. Related: How long does it take to get to Mars?
On 14 May 2021, the lander/rover portion of the mission successfully touched down on Mars, making China the second nation to make a soft landing on and establish communication from the Martian surface, after the United States.

The U.S. tops the current list, with 30 completed successful missions to the moon or its orbit between 1959 and 2013, according to OMG Space. The USSR flew 23 such missions between 1959 and 1976. China stepped up its space program in the 2000s and flew its first mission of the Chang'e program in 2007.
It was ejected at 14:30 UTC on 14 November 2008. As planned, the Moon Impact Probe impacted the lunar south pole at 15:01 UTC on 14 November 2008. ISRO was the fifth national space agency to reach the surface of the Moon.
