He is not a deadbeat father at all. Prince Daemon Targaryen may not be the best father but he does truly love his daughters very much.
Daemon is said to love his family by both the showrunners and fans but we're only shown his love for Viserys and Rhaenyra. Even Matt Smith has said that they're the only people Daemon cares about.
In the seventh episode of the blockbuster HBO series, Prince Daemon marries his own niece, Princess Rhaenyra. The incestuous romance had been building for some time. Before a 10-year time jump occurred in the show's sixth epsode, Daemon took a young Rhaenyra to a brothel in King's Land where the two got intimate.
However, the bonds that bind them together are what makes the series so interesting. While Daemon might hold complicated feelings for his brother, he loved him in a way that few second sons love their older brothers.
In 97 AC, Daemon married Lady Rhea Royce, the heir to Runestone, but he disliked both her and the Vale of Arryn; Daemon referred to his wife as his "bronze bitch". During the Great Council of 101 AC, Daemon supported the claim of Prince Viserys, as it would make Daemon the heir after his brother.

In Fire & Blood, the book House of the Dragon is based on, Daemon and Rhaenyra go on to have two boys: Aegon and Viserys. Yup, another Aegon and another Viserys.
It was abundantly clear in the season finale that Daemon truly values Rhaenyra as the queen, and it doesn't appear to be for his own gain. All of his actions indicate that he looks to her as his leader even before she's taken power and has every intention to get her to her rightful throne.
At the end of the day, Daemon chose Laena and Laena chose Daemon. 'He's trying his best,' Laena told their daughter Rhaena, and that was how she knew Daemon loved them.
Later, in episode seven, Daemon tells Rhaenyra that he and Laena were "happy enough" in their marriage. In that regard, there was far more love between Daemon and Laena than there ever was between him and Rhea, even if it wasn't entirely romantic.
Daemon couldn't perform with Rhaenyra after she took control of the situation. “It's the idea that Daemon is using Rhaenyra as a way to get at her father,” showrunner Miguel Sapochnik said.
Prince Daemon marries Rhaenyra following the death of his second wife, Laena Velaryon, and they have three children.

Daemon desires respect from his brother and a position that would allow him to stand beside Viserys without being undermined by those around him. By marrying Rhaenyra to Daemon in Targaryen tradition, Viserys would be forced to keep his brother next to him and uplift him as the next king consort.
Then Daemon kissed her. And she was very much interested in that. The uncle and niece got steamy fast. Clothes flew off and Rhaenyra gave back to Daemon as good as she got.
Rhea Royce marries Prince Daemon Targaryen in 97 AC, more than a decade before the main events of the HOTD premiere, which are set in 112 AC. The marriage is politically advantageous for House Targaryen, as Rhea is the heir to Runestone.
In that regard, he had had his fair share of relationships in his life before he married Rhaenyra. Still, the Fire & Blood book suggests that he wasn't exactly faithful to his wife because he has been quite close with Mysaria and Nettles.
For Daemon to be the partner to Rhaenyra he's been destined to be, he had to be kept at a remove from his baser actions. The end result of all that obfuscation is clear: Daemon Targaryen is not a good guy. But he's also not the villain of this story, and the series has been telling us that all along.
They decided to ignore the fact that Daemon, Rhaenyra, and Laena all cared for each other. Daemon is not a monster. He is, however, a bad guy. The same way Otto, Littlefinger, and many other self-important men on this show and in this franchise have been.
In the books, they have three: daughter Visenya, who does not survive infancy; and two sons, Aegon III and Viserys II, who will grow up to be next Kings of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men.
Rhaenyra's three eldest sons all died fighting during the Dance of the Dragons, but her two youngest sons, the sons by her second husband, Prince Daemon, survived the civil war.

Laena and Daemon marry soon after. Laena and Daemon were a power couple, and their marriage was celebrated by nearly all of Westeros and Essos — except for King Viserys and his court, who considered it another sign of Daemon's disrespect.
