🔗 Each man was a prominent artist in his own right (though Monet had a much larger public profile than Van Gogh did when he was alive), but the two never actually physically crossed paths. Instead, the link between them came from Vincent's brother, Theo, and his vocation in the upper-echelons of the European art world.
Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh never met, but it is not difficult to discern from Vincent's comments that he held the landscape painter in the highest regard.
When Van Gogh presented his work at the Salon des Indépendants in 1890, Theo could not have reported higher praise: Monet considered Vincent's works 'the best in the exhibition. ' In this post we show a selection of the works that were presented in that exhibition (4/14).
Vincent wrote to Theo 📝 'In my view I'm often very rich, not in money, but rich [...] because I've found my work — have something which I live for heart and soul and which gives inspiration and meaning to life. ' Let's take a moment to think about things that are unrelated to money, yet enrich our lives.

But most of all, you can see the impact of Vincent van Gogh. Picasso's biographer, John Richardson, has written that Van Gogh meant more to Picasso than any other artist in his later years. He even got a copy of the newspaper report of Van Gogh's ear-mutilation episode so he could frame it.
His medical biographers agree that his adulthood included periods of hypersexuality, hyposexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality.
The sadness will last forever. What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

Although Vincent fell in love several times, he only ever lived with one woman. Sien Hoornik, whom he met in The Hague, was working as a prostitute when Van Gogh approached her to model for his drawings. They quickly developed a relationship.

While here he met Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Frédéric Bazille. Bazille eventually became his closest friend.
If we can be certain about one thing, it's that Theo was Vincent's best friend.

Repetitive self-mutilation is termed the van Gogh syndrome after Vincent van Gogh a renowned Dutch painter of late 19 th century, who during a bout of psychosis deliberately mutilated his ear. Self-mutilation of ears is a rare condition seen usually in patients with mental illness.
Vincent had plenty of love interests throughout his life, but things never went smoothly. He got off to a bad start when he fell in love with his niece, Kee Vos-Stricker, who rejected his advances.

Leonardo da Vinci, probably the most important Renaissance artist, is widely recognized as the most famous artist of all time. He's the genius behind the iconic Mona Lisa painting masterpiece, after all.
His exposure to the work of Rossetti, Steinlen, Toulouse-Lautrec and Edvard Munch, combined with his admiration for favourite old masters such as El Greco, led Picasso to a personal version of modernism in his works of this period.
