When Eleven touched the Demogorgon inside the Void, she became so terrified that her powers burst out of her, and a Gate to the Upside Down was opened inside the lab. Somewhere among the chaos of the Gate opening, Eleven escaped HNL through the drain pipe Henry had shown her years ago.
Indeed, Stranger Things season 2 revealed that Eleven wasn't dead, and was instead sent to the Upside Down. She escaped from the other dimension and came back to the human world a couple of hours later, but by then, the school was surrounded by policemen and the kids were being interrogated.
Eleven Escapes Papa for Good
When Eleven is ready to leave to help her friends, Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser) is willing to let her go; Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) is not — so much so that he lies to her and tells her she's not ready to face Vecna/One/Henry (Jamie Campbell Bower) and handcuffs Owens to a pipe.
As well as befriending Eleven in order to gain her trust so she would remove his Soteria implant, we learn in the final episode that 001 initially spared El because he wanted her to join him. He viewed her as an ally rather than an enemy because they were "alike".
Henry told Eleven that the Soteria in his neck was a tracking device that also 'weakened' him. Wishing to help him, Eleven was tricked into ripping the device out with her abilities.
But 001 appears in season 4 as a friendly orderly at the lab. (Even the end credits on most episodes state Bower plays a "friendly orderly.") He looks after all the kids, but he takes a liking to Eleven.
While intending to get his revenge on Eleven and Brenner, Vecna also goes after victims who have dealt with traumatizing experiences in the past (reminiscent of his childhood and his time at the Hawkins lab).
001 is one of the most well-developed villains on Netflix's Stranger Things, and there's a lot to know about how he becomes so powerful.
Eleven has a memory during this episode and realizes that 001/Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower) wants her to join him on his evil journey, and she banished him to the Upside Down. 001 then transformed into Vecna, the horrifying Stranger Things villain.
In episode 7, Vecna is revealed to be Henry Creel (played as a youngster by Raphael Luce), the son of Victor Creel (Robert Englund) and his wife Virginia (Tyner Rushing) shown in the 1950s flashbacks.
At his empire's height, Vecna was betrayed and destroyed by his most trusted lieutenant, a vampire called Kas the Bloody-Handed, using a magical sword that Vecna himself had crafted for him, now known as the Sword of Kas.
He simply died of his wounds while Vecna was far, far away. Of course, some fans have jumped on the "Eleven's new power" train and claimed that Vecna could resurrect Eddie. While that might be theoretically possible, it really wouldn't make much sense. Vecna had no connection to Eddie whatsoever.
"Vecna seems to be actually intrigued by Nancy being able to figure him out, to be able to get this close to the truth... I think this is more Vecna's narcissistic traits that pull him to Nancy, why he wants to give her this information."
The orderly, who befriended Eleven because she was the most powerful subject, tricks her into removing a chip in his skin. It turns out that the orderly is the mysterious Number One, a man named Henry Creel who came under Brenner's care after killing his parents.
In season 4, Peter Ballard notes that Kali was no longer at the lab in 1979. Given Kali's powers, it seems pretty self-explanatory as to how she was able to escape the lab. She either made herself invisible or was able to escape after manipulating the minds and visions of the guards.
Vecna was the one who originally kidnapped Will in season 1.
"I walked up to her [as Vecna] and she burst into tears. She wouldn't look at me and she was visibly just disgusted by the whole thing... After she cried and I made it obvious that she knew it was me, one of the things she said was that, 'I knew it was you when I could smell cigarettes,' because I'm a smoker."
And he saw the possibility for escape when he realized the extent of Eleven's untapped potential. One manipulated Eleven into plotting her own escape, which also involved getting her to remove the device in his neck. (Henry, however, did not tell Eleven the truth when he said Brenner wanted her dead.
What does Vecna want with El? In his twisted mind, Vecna believes that he his helping the world by wiping out humans, as a "predator, but for good." When Vecna asks for El to join him, it's because he also sees her as a predator, "better" than humans.
Then, as he was falling through the Upside Down, One became the creature Vecna after lightning struck him in such a way that it changed his skin and made him into the monster he is now.
Birth and early life. Henry Creel was born in 1947 to Victor and Virginia Creel, and had an older sister by three years named Alice. He did not fit in with his peers; his father described him as a "sensitive" boy.
He believed that the construct of time and monotony needed to be destroyed. So, in his mind, by destroying humanity, he was doing it favor. That's what makes him so evil.
In simple words, Vecna needs a total of four gates to take over Hawkins and rule it. Now, you must be thinking, why is Vecna killing people if he can take over the complete Hawkins? Well, in one of the previous episodes, it was revealed that with each person Vecna kills, he creates an opening to the real world.
Patrick was targeted due to his father's abuse of him. Finally, Vecna targets Max for her trauma from witnessing Billy's death and uses Barb's (Shannon Purser) death as a way to use Nancy.
Vecna's obsession with time appears to be linked to his hatred of humanity. He views time as a human imposition on the natural world; an attempt to impose order on nature.
