You can't directly FaceTime 999 as a user initiated call, but emergency services in some areas now use video triage via FaceTime/live video after you call, allowing dispatchers to see your situation for faster assessment, especially with newer iOS/Android features that send a link for live video sharing during an emergency call. For immediate help, you must call 999 (or 112) for a voice call or use Emergency SOS on your iPhone for silent alerts, but video sharing only happens if the dispatcher initiates it.
You can still make an emergency call with the Emergency Call slider. Say “Hey Siri, call 999”.
But if you call 999 and it's not an emergency, you could be delaying us from responding to someone who needs our help more. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 or 112. If you need medical attention but it's not life-threatening or you don't know what to do, call 111. You can also get help from 111 online.
The iTunes website says the update means users can call "friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they're in another country". You can not use it to call 999 and other emergency services. As WhatsApp's popularity continues to increase, it's believed the app will continue to experiment with new features.
The '999 BSL UK Emergency Video Relay Service' enables a deaf person to use an app on their smart phone, tablet or laptop to call an emergency service, including ambulance, police, fire or coastguard services.
If you cannot make voice calls, you can contact the 999 emergency services by SMS text from your mobile phone. You will only be able to use this service if you have registered with emergencySMS first.
112 = Emergencies Only
In the UK, it connects to the same services as 999 and works in exactly the same way. Neither number has priority over the other, so you may use either number to reach the emergency services. Always do your own research before travelling. You can see a list of countries that use 112 here.
If one calls it after midnight and says a wish, the wish shall be granted later, but as a consequence, death will come to the caller.
So please remember, if you or your child accidently calls 999 – don't hang up! Speak to the Call Handler and let them know it was just a mistake, they won't be annoyed or angry, you will be helping them by letting them know officers aren't needed. Your browser can't play this video.

You can use Siri for a quick, hands-free way to get emergency help on all your Apple devices.
You can make a 999 call from any phone that has a password lock. Simply dial 999 or look for the word 'Emergency' which will open a new screen to make the 999 call from.

When you see all nines in the number for a call or text history, this is because the number could not be captured. It is possible that it was a shortcode, or a text from a longer string of numbers than is captured in a 10-digit mobile number.
Non-life-threatening emergencies
If it's not a life-threatening emergency and you or the person you're with doesn't need immediate medical attention, please consider other options before dialling 999. For example: self care at home. visiting 111.nhs.uk.
In Thailand, the number 999-9999 is known as the cursed number, which is said to grant the caller a wish but at a deadly cost. The legend goes that whoever dials 999-9999 may receive their heart's desire, but it comes with a price no one should want to pay.
If you dial 112 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 112 when no emergency exists, do not hang up – that could make 112 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker that you dialled by mistake.

The code 999 was used to allow free calls to the emergency services from coinboxes (payphones). The dials of coinboxes were already modified to allow free calls to the operator using the digit '0'. The next easiest digit to modify on the dial was the 9 - next to 0.
Text-to-911 is the ability to send a text message to reach 911 emergency call takers from your mobile phone or device. However, because voice calls to 911 provide more information to 911 call centers, you should always make a voice call to 911 during an emergency whenever possible.
The first call to 911 was placed in February of 1968. Thanks to 911, throughout the country, a call to 911 can quickly connect you with the help you need. Before that first call, citizens needed to dial local 7-digit phone numbers to reach police, fire or emergency services.
