In the expanded Halo universe, it's revealed that John-117 suffered from heavy freezer burns all over his body during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. That would mean he was in pain for the entirety of his time on the Halo ring. He sure can keep his misery a secret.
Halo begins with the Chief waking up from cryo sleep. Though he doesn't complain, he's actually in incredible pain the whole time. When people go into cryo sleep, they typically remove all of their clothing because skin "reacts badly" to the freezing process.
Halo Infinite navigates this in several interesting ways, showing that although Master Chief may seem impenetrable and emotionless, that isn't actually true at all. With Master Chief's lack of expression to rely on, Halo Infinite uses the surrounding characters to showcase his emotions.
Since SPARTANs were made for battle, they are often seen on the front lines outfitted in their armor. Like most of his fellow SPARTANs, the Master Chief removes his helmet only when it needs repairs. This can be seen in the secret ending of Halo 4 once players complete the game on the Legendary difficulty.
He was augmented as a child, he has spent many years in cryo-sleep, and the Librarian did the evolution thing to him in Halo 4. For all we know, the Chief is now immortal.
Master Chief, and his squad of Spartans, are a beautiful example of asexual heroes. The team is complex, full of personality and love, commitment to each other and to the whole of humanity. Their asexual selves represents much of what we everyday asexual people are seeking in our lives.

There are four different generations of Spartans with the Spartan-IIs being considered the strongest. That said, there are still plenty of Spartan-IIIs and IVs that can compete and even exceed what the Master Chief has accomplished.
Like the popular Halo 3 game mode, Master Chief is a lone wolf. He prefers to fight alone, and he shows resistance to fighting in a squad. He will get angry when others try to help him. Master Chief is the ideal soldier in capabilities, but his attitude can get in the way of greatness.
His skin is unnaturally pale as a consequence of spending most of his time in his armor. He stands about 7 feet (2.13 m) tall and weighs 1,000 pounds (450 kg) in armor; without it, he stands 6 feet, 10 inches (2.08 m) tall and weighs 287 pounds (130 kg).
Weakness: Age. Age is a weakness that nearly everybody tries to hide. People dye their hair, use make-up, or even undergo surgery to try to reverse the effects of aging. Master Chief hides his age quite well.
During cryosleep, he wore his suit for four years straight! Of course, this isn't to say that Master Chief doesn't shower when he can. He does!
Regarding what Master Chief looks like under his helmet, Lehto said he looks "heroic but also kinda brutal," noting that he is bald and has scars covering his face. "We had a very early sketch of John 117 that had him bald from years of wearing a helmet and scars over most of his exposed skin," Lehto said.
Prior to augmentation John likely had an IQ close to his peers around 160. Enhancements to intelligence/memory from augmentation have likely boosted his functional IQ well above that.
The Master Chief may fight for humanity but he isn't one of us any longer. At the age of fourteen, the Spartans underwent a risky surgery that was engineered to make them faster, better, harder, stronger.
With a battle spanning years and across the entire galaxy, it's not surprising that Master Chief's kill count may reach somewhere between a few tens of thousands to even millions. Especially once you factor in that he's destroyed places such as High Charity, as well as the Alpha Halo.
Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, also known simply by his rank as the "Master Chief" or (as is common in military culture) simply as the "Chief", is a Spartan-II supersoldier of the UNSC Navy's Special Weapons division. He served as one of the most important figures of the Human-Covenant War.
How strong can Master Chief punch? In Mark 6, (5x strength amplification) Id estimate more along the lines of 50–60 tons, he has be stated to bench press tanks (which I think is out of line for Mark 6) can toss 1 ton brutes around with a single arm, punch through several inches of Titanium A.
Not many people can match Master Chief in a physical confrontation, and even few can surpass him. However, one of the few who can is the cyborg ninja Raiden. Master Chief is strong and fast, but Raiden is stronger and faster, able to lift and throw giant Metal Gears and outrun bullet trains.
Yûko was kidnapped and replaced by a flash clone at the age of 6 for the SPARTAN-II project. Though physically the weakest of any of the SPARTANS she was still physically stronger than a normal human. Her main strength lay in her mind.
Samuel's biography on Halo Waypoint originally listed his armored height as 238.8 cm (7 ft 10 in) and his unarmored mass as 155.6 kg (343 lb, though erroneously converted to 324 lb). This was consistent with his description as the largest of the Spartan-IIs and as being a head taller than John-117.
Neural degeneration was also considerably slowed, estimated to be nearly three times slower than that of an unaugmented human in peak health. While the ONI initially projected optimal Spartan lifespan to be 150 Earth years, it would later be extended to 200.
