If you're studying the HSC, VCE, QCE, SACE, WACE or any other equivalent local curriculum, you can 100% use your ATAR rank (the holy grail being the 99.95) as part of your application to international universities like Harvard, Oxford, Stanford and more.

Applying to university in the US is quite a long and complex process. If you're considering studying in the US, then you're going to have to be prepared to do a bit more research and spend even more time on your applications.
With a GPA of 4.18, Harvard requires you to be at the top of your class. You'll need nearly straight A's in all your classes to compete with other applicants. Furthermore, you should be taking hard classes - AP or IB courses - to show that college-level academics is a breeze.
On this basis, a grade average per cent mark in the range of 70–79% derives a GPA between 5.0 and 5.99 on the 7-point numeric scale.
Does Harvard Accept B Students? Yes, just like I mentioned above, it's completely possible to get admitted into Harvard University with B grades. Admissions are not reserved only for straight-A students.

There is no minimum score required for admission, nor is there a score that will guarantee admission.
When should I start preparing to apply to Harvard? If you think that you might want to attend Harvard, you should start preparing as early as possible. If you are still in junior high, you are at an advantage with preparing for Harvard. If you are in high school, start preparing during your freshman year if possible.
Your ATAR is calculated from the results of 10 course units and at least four subjects, so even if you excel in one, two or even three subjects, you won't receive your best ATAR unless you work equally hard in each of your courses. This applies to subjects within the course, too.
Australia. A position between 98.5 and 99.5 (depending on the course) of a maximum 99.95 in the Australia Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) and successful completion of one of the following qualifications: ACT Year 12 Certificate.
A coveted admission into the University of Cambridge requires a rank of 98.50 to 99.50 overall, on top of similar performance on the subjects in your secondary school certificate.
GPA of 6 and 7 are considered as an excellent score in Australian universities and among Australian employers. GPA of 6 or 7 means Distinction or Higher Distinction.
But it's also determined by a complex scaling system that is beyond your control. An ATAR score of 60 doesn't mean you got 60 per cent as a grade. It actually means you're in the top 40 per cent of your year group. Similarly, an ATAR score of 90 means you're placed in the top 10 per cent of your year.
There are people who have been accepted with C's on their transcripts and lower GPAs. You could certainly give Harvard a shot, but since its a tough school for almost anyone to get into, make sure to prioritize your applications to safety and target schools.
The minimum standard for satisfactory work in the Graduate School is a “B” average in each academic year. A grade of “C” or “INC” is offset by a grade of “A” and a “D” by two “A's”; no account is taken of plus or minus. Grades of “E” or an unexcused “ABS” are failing. A grade of “UNS” is unsatisfactory.

Australia has a much better quality of life. Sydney is considered the most beautiful and one of the most livable cities in the world. 4 of the States capital cities: Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide are all in the top 10 most livable cities in the world. Whilst no cities of America are on that list.
Australia's standard of living is amongst the highest in the world. Living expenses and tuition costs are considerably lower in Australia than they are in the United States and United Kingdom. International students are able to work part time while they study, allowing them to offset their living costs.
How is studying in Australia better than studying in the USA? Australia has some of the highest living standards globally, and the living expenses and tuition fees in Australia are lower than in the United States. Moreover, when it comes to safety, the crime rate is much lower in Australia than in the USA.
