There's no single Muslim marriage age; it varies by country and interpretation, but Islamic texts often point to puberty (baligh) as a marker for readiness, while many Muslim-majority nations set legal ages, often 18, though exceptions for younger marriages with parental/judicial consent exist, despite global efforts against child marriage. Some scholars support early marriage for societal stability, referencing the Prophet Muhammad marrying Aisha at a young age, while others argue against it, citing harm and the importance of full maturity.
There is no minimum age for marriage specified in the Qur'an or hadith but there are references that call for an individual to reach the age of psychological maturity and responsibility – which is at some point beyond puberty - when entering into any serious contractual agreement.
1. Be Mature and Old Enough to Start Dating. There is no set age in Islam where individuals are considered old enough or mature enough to enter into a relationship. Islam encourages individuals to marry young so that they won't fall prey to the temptation of fornication before marriage.
This can be a valid concern for couples who have certain expectations about their standard of living and lack emotional support from family and friends for the marriage. As you mentioned, the idea of an older woman marrying a younger man is not a new idea and was beautifully modeled by our Prophet ﷺ.
The characteristics or signs of puberty in girls are pubic hair, menstruation, wet dreams and the ability to conceive. However, according to Al-Nawawi, the age of 15 lunar year is self-evident for both boys and girls to become full adults.
Age at marriage and consummation
Classical Islamic sources state that Aisha was six at the time of her marriage with Muhammad and nine at the time of its consummation (then 50 or 53). In a hadith recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari, Aisha recalls being married at the age of six.
The "777 Rule in Islam" primarily refers to a parenting philosophy based on dividing a child's upbringing into three seven-year stages: 0-7 years (play, love, bonding); 7-14 years (teaching, discipline, character building); and 14-21 years (mentorship, guidance, treating them as friends/companions). This framework, rooted in prophetic guidance, emphasizes intentional connection and age-appropriate engagement to raise balanced, resilient Muslim children, contrasting with a simpler "7-minute rule" for daily connection.
Generally, for boys the puberty age is 15 years whereas for girls it is 9 years (see Ahadith in Appendix I).
So while Muslims don't “date” in the modern sense, many do engage in halal courtship that helps them determine compatibility for marriage.
For women, marriage to anyone but a Muslim man is not permissible. The spouse may not be a close relative unless it is a cousin, including first cousins. As cousins are not mahram. Also forbidden to marry are those of the same sex, anyone who has had the same wetnurse feed them.
Dear brother, you must know that combining between two sisters as wives is absolutely forbidden and it is a fundamental in Islamic legislation which is proved by Quran, Sunnah and the consensus of Muslim scholars. Based on this Hadith, it is clear that it is not permissible for a Muslim man or woman to touch, kiss, or engage in any physical contact with a non-mahram.
Muslim dating is not meant to be a casual or a temporary relationship, but rather a serious commitment with the goal of building a lasting marriage. This means that when you start dating someone, you should be clear about your intentions from the beginning and ensure that your partner is on the same page.
Importance of dates in Islam
Dates are given significance in Islam, not only as a nutritional fruit but as a practice of Sunnah.
Muslim women should not pray, enter the mosque, or touch the Mus-haf (copy of the Quran) during the menstrual period. When there is no blood at all or a white discharge is seen, women should perform Ghusl then pray and fast if they have some days to make up for.
What is regarded as Mustahab is to remove that hair with whatever means is possible. So as soon as they start growing it, it can be recommended to them.
So, there are fifteen years as the age of maturity (بلوغ bulugh) and ten years as the age of proper understanding (rushd). Once these 25 years are reached, such proper understanding is most likely to be achieved; something which was not possible due to the barriers of childhood, and later, younger years.

If there is no impurity (najas) on her private part, kissing and foreplay stuff will not be something haram. However, if there is discharge, and chances for the husband to take the discharge in his mouth, then this would be haram.
