King’s Birthday Australia : Second Monday in June

The King’s Birthday is a public holiday on the second Monday in June in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory: Monday 8 June 2026, Monday 14 June 2027 and Monday 12 June 2028. Queensland celebrates the King’s Birthday in October (first Monday in October). In Western Australia the date is proclaimed each year, usually at the end of September, because the second Monday in June is close to Western Australia Day; see King’s Birthday Western Australia.

The public holiday was called the Queen’s Birthday until 2022. It celebrates the official birthday of the monarch, currently King Charles III; the date does not coincide with the King’s actual birthday.

Traditionally the King’s Birthday Honours list is published around this day. The list contains the names of the new members of the Order of Australia and other Australian honours, which recognise the achievements of Australian citizens and other individuals or their meritorious service.
