Muzan gave Tanjiro all his blood in a desperate, final act as the sun rose, intending for Tanjiro to become the Demon King, conquer the sunlight like Nezuko, and fulfill Muzan's dream of ending the Demon Slayer Corps in his stead, passing on his will and power. Muzan saw Tanjiro's unique connection to Nezuko (who had overcome sunlight) and his inherited Sun Breathing as the perfect vessel to achieve his ultimate goal of immortality and dominance, even as Muzan himself disintegrated.
