After King Arthur's death, different legends offer different successors, but often his wife, Queen Guinevere, ruled briefly as regent, while more traditional accounts, like Geoffrey of Monmouth's 'Historia Regum Britanniae', name his kinsman Constantine (son of Cador), who took the crown but faced continued Saxon invasions, leading to Camelot's eventual decline.
In the Tavola Ritonda, Camelot is abandoned and falls to ruin after the death of Arthur.
Even after Arthur was dead or presumed dead (taken to Avalon) Guinevere decided to split with Lancelot and went away to a nunnery to pray for her sins. Lancelot respected her decision and he, and all his surviving kin of de Ganis likewise became monks.
After being conquered by Uther Pendragon, it has been controlled by the Pendragon family. Camelot has become a legend in modern times. Its last known monarch was Queen Guinevere Pendragon, who, when her husband, King Arthur, died, likely reigned as Queen Regent.
There is no proof that Uther Pendragon really existed, though scholars believe he may have lived sometime during the mid-400s to the early 500s ad.
Arthur's admiration continues to deepen as the story goes along. However, after discovering of Meliodas's betrayal, Arthur accepted the fact that Meliodas was the enemy. He stated that he would never forgive Meliodas for what he had done, and then tries to kill Meliodas.
Although most scholars regard it as being entirely fictional, there are many locations that have been linked with King Arthur's Camelot. Camelot was the name of the place where King Arthur held court and was the location of the famous Round Table.
Arthur was grateful for his aid and later made him a Knight of Camelot after he volunteered to help rescue Uther (The Coming of Arthur). Lancelot sacrificed himself in Arthur's place to banish the Dorocha, leaving Arthur deeply saddened.
“With the best information available, the best guesses that could be made, it's long been thought the location of Camelot could have been at sites like Caerleon, in South Wales, Winchester or Cadbury Castle.” However, finding the true Camelot has remained tantalisingly out of reach.
On Arthur's death, his younger brother Henry became heir to the throne and the new Prince of Wales. Henry VII died in 1509 and after some years of uncertainty, the new king Henry VIII married his brother's widow.
Lancelot is named after Lancelot of the Lake, one of the Knights of the Round Table in Arthurian mythology where he typically figures as King Arthur's greatest companion and one of his greatest knights, and his parents were King Ban of Benoic and Queen Elaine.
Mordred is the only son of King Arthur. In most versions of the legend, Mordred's mother is Arthur's half-sister, making him a product of incest.
Sir Lancelot was King Arthur's most trusted companion and loyal friend, but the closeness of their relationship made Lancelot's ultimate betrayal all the more painful.
Camelot, in Arthurian legend, the seat of King Arthur's court. It is variously identified with Caerleon, Monmouthshire, in Wales, and, in England, with the following: Queen Camel, Somerset; the little town of Camelford, Cornwall; Winchester, Hampshire; and Cadbury Castle, South Cadbury, Somerset.
Merlin loves Arthur due to their intertwined destiny, where Merlin's magic exists to protect Arthur and guide him to become the great king he's fated to be, fostering a deep bond of friendship, loyalty, and profound care that evolves from obligation to genuine love, with some interpretations suggesting romantic love as well, especially given their willingness to sacrifice everything for each other.
Lastly, when Arthur dies, Excalibur is returned to the Lady of the Lake by Sir Bedivere (after twice failing to throw the sword in the lake and being remonstrated by Arthur, he does so).
Avalon has been identified with Glastonbury in Somerset, and this may be connected with Celtic legends about an “isle of glass” inhabited by deceased heroes. It is equally likely to have been an attempt by the monks of Glastonbury to exploit the Arthurian legend for the benefit of their own community.
When we turn to the archaeology of 5th and 6th century Britain, there is no evidence at all of the existence of Arthur.
At the end of season 2, Morgana was already angry and actively seeking Uther's death, but still cared about her friends and everybody else in Camelot. Merlin poisons her in the finale, and obviously that betrayal is going to have an effect on her.
Betrayal. In the versions where Guinevere is presented as a evil-doer, she is guided either by malice toward Arthur or overwhelming love for Lancelot. In the versions of the legend where she is most conniving and evil, she is seduced by Mordred in an effort to betray and overthrow Arthur's reign.
The Historia Regum Britanniae explains that when Merlin died he was "400 Summers his Lord" (His Lord would be Arthur and Arthur died in his 40's to 60's). So we can assume that Merlin was around 440-460 years old. However his character was based on Myrddin Wyllt. Myrddin died at the age of 39.
The historicity of King Arthur has been debated both by academics and popular writers. While there have been many claims that King Arthur was a real historical person, the current consensus among specialists on the period holds him to be a mythological or folkloric figure.
Welcome to Glastonbury Abbey
Since Medieval times, the abbey has held legendary status as the earliest Christian foundation in Britain linked to Joseph of Arimathea and the burial place of King Arthur.
Arthur became evil because the other races since ancient times have used humans for their own gain. The Goddesses used them as pawns to fight the demons. The Demons saw them as something insignificant or food.
