Creation and writing. Megara's role in Hercules is one of several creative liberties Disney took when adapting the Greek myth into an animated film. In Greek mythology, Megara is Hercules' first wife, with whom the character has several children.
Megara is a figure in ancient Greek and Roman mythology. She is a Theban woman who is given to Hercules (Greek name Herakles) as a bride. The couple have a happy marriage and have several children together.
Notable standouts in his love stable were Philoctetes, who upon Hercules' death inherited his bow and arrows, and Nestor, the youngest son of King Neleus. Of all his loves, Iolaos of Thebes and Hylas of Argos still have slivers of contemporary academic recognition as friends and lovers.
In gratitude, Creon, king of Thebes offered his eldest daughter, Megara, to the hero. Hercules and Megara got married and had three strong sons. The family lived happily together.
Hercules is Hated by Hera
Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage, was married to Zeus when he had an extramarital affair with the mortal woman Alcmene. Because Hercules was born from the affair, Hera was constantly reminded of Zeus's infidelity, and she hated Hercules for it.
Though this movie only shows Megara as Hercules' love interest, in Greek mythology, the demigod had several wives throughout the course of his life.
The hunt for the lion lasted fifty days, and during each night of the hunt Heracles slept with each of the fifty daughters, who in turn each gave birth to one son. Alternate sources claim that Heracles slept with the daughters in a single night.
While Hercules becomes attracted to Megara, Phil immediately clashes with her, considering her a distraction. After Hercules offers himself as a hero in Thebes, with Phil insists that he was the "genuine article", the Thebans dismiss Hercules as an "amateur" rather than a professional hero.
Deianira, Hercules' second wife. Hercules married a second wife, Deianira. He won her hand in marriage by wrestling with the river-god Acheloos, who took the form of a centaur. During the fight, Hercules broke off one of Acheloos' horns.
The next biggest age gap is between Hercules and Meg, with Hercules thought to be 18 and Meg 28 in the 1997 film. Although Meg continually rejects Hercules throughout the film, she relents at the end!
Megara was the first wife of the Greek hero Herakles (better known as Hercules). She was the daughter of King Creon of Thebes who gave her in marriage to Hercules in gratitude for his help in winning back Creon's kingdom from the Minyans.
Hera was the sister and wife of Zeus and was very passionate in her hate for Herakles. In myth, Hera was simply Zeus' wife, and as such she was inferior to him in position and power and had to obey his commands. (It was only later, in cult, that she became the queen of the heavens, of gods and men as he was king.)
Despite Zeus' wandering eye, Hera remained fiercely loyal to him. While she may have had numerous opportunities to cheat on Zeus, she spent most of her time punishing the objects of his desires.
Painful Death
Hercules then asked for help from the gods to end his life, and he received it. The Greek god Zeus sent lightning to consume Hercules' mortal body and took him to live with the gods on Mount Olympus.
Hercules did try to smooth things over with the angry queen of the gods; when he noticed that she had not opposed him during his fight against Hippocoon, he sacrificed goats to her, in thanks. When Hercules died, Hera's anger finally cooled, and after the hero ascended to Olympus, he married Hera's daughter, Hebe.
Among the more famous victims of Hera's jealousy is Hercules (aka "Heracles," whose name means the glory of Hera). Hera persecuted the famous hero from before the time he could walk for the simple reason that Zeus was his father, but another woman -- Alcmene -- was his mother.
But Hera kept up her dirty tricks. When her stepson was a young adult, she cast a kind of spell on him that drove him temporarily insane and caused him to murder his beloved wife and their two children.
Hera hates Heracles because he is a living reminder of her husband's infidelity. Because of this she is cruel to him. She could bring about Herakles' death but instead she wants him to suffer. She sends Madness to drive Heracles to murder his wife and progeny.
Exile to Thebes
He then visited Alcmene disguised as Amphitryon. Zeus persuaded Alcmene that he was her husband. Thus Zeus slept with Alcmene, his great-granddaughter, thereby conceiving Heracles, while recounting Amphitryon's victories against the Teleboans.

According to Pliny the Elder, Pandaie was the only female child of Heracles (which, however, contradicts the accounts that mention Macaria, Eucleia and Manto as his daughters), and was therefore especially favored by him.
She's not a princess, and she's not a villain." Egan believes that Meg undergoes "a much larger arch than the Disney princesses" as she experiences a change of heart, describing her as flawed and feeling that Disney not crowning her a princess makes her "more relatable".
Wives and Children
Hercules' first marriage was to Deianeira. He had three children with her: Aeson, Klonus, and Ilea. However, Hera killed Deianeira and all three children with a fireball. Hercules' second marriage was to Serena.
Story. Megara was born to Creon King of Thebas, most of her childhood is unknown. During her youth, she sold her soul to Hades in order to save her boyfriend's life, but shortly afterwards he had dumped her for some other woman, abandoning her.
