Amoxicillin is not a first-line treatment for most sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in the general population due to concerns about increasing antibiotic resistance. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends it as an alternative treatment option for chlamydia in pregnant women.
This antibiotic works by preventing bacteria from building cell walls. Without these walls, bacteria can't survive and the body's immune system can eliminate it. Amoxicillin can be prescribed for a variety of bacterial infections, including gonorrhea and chlamydia.
To treat early syphilis, a treponemicidal level of amoxicillin in serum over 0.42 µg/mL (penicillin level > 0.018 mg/L) should be maintained for at least 7–10 days without discontinuation for 24–30 hours or more [6, 10, 16].
Amoxicillin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia; bronchitis (infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs); and infections of the ears, nose, throat, urinary tract, and skin.
Primary stage
A chancre often appears in the genital area. But sores may also occur in or near the anus or in or near the mouth. The sores are usually painless and raised. They may go unnoticed.
It takes 7 days for the medicine to work and cure chlamydia. If you have sex without a condom during these 7 days, after taking the medicine, you could still pass chlamydia to your sex partner(s), even if you still have no symptoms.
Effective treatment is currently available for several STIs. Three bacterial (chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis) and one parasitic STIs (trichomoniasis) are generally curable with existing single-dose regimens of antibiotics.
Herpes, HPV, HIV, and hepatitis B are currently incurable. However, management of disease progression, transmission, and some symptoms is possible.
Syphilis and gonorrhea are ancient afflictions. Now, however, Chlamydia is prevalent and has become the most common bacterial STD.
There are many ways to get an STI test that you can do at home. You can get them over the counter in some pharmacies, like CVS. Or you can go online where a slew of companies such as Nurx, TBD Health, Lemonaid, Let's Get Checked, and myLAB box sell home test kits.
Doxycycline is an antibiotic tablet that can be taken to treat chlamydia. A 7-day course is up to 95% effective at clearing the infection. Doxycycline is a generic medication, and the usual dose for chlamydia is one 100mg capsule taken twice a day for 7 days.
Symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) can include:
Amoxicillin begins to work within a few hours after starting the antibiotic. You may start to feel better within 48 to 72 hours. However, you should always finish taking all your prescribed medication, even if you feel better, before it runs out.
Amoxicillin can interact with medications such as warfarin (Jantoven), allopurinol (Zyloprim), and probenecid (Probalan). It may also interact with alcohol and some live vaccines. Make sure to provide an updated medication list to your prescriber and pharmacist. This will help them check for amoxicillin interactions.
Dosage and strength
The usual dose of amoxicillin capsules is 250mg to 500mg, taken 3 times a day. The dose may be lower for children.
Amoxicillin starts fighting bacteria in your body soon after you take it. However, it needs some time before it starts to make a difference. You may begin to feel better after 2 to 3 days of taking the medication. But it may take longer to feel fully back to normal.

Chlamydia treatment
Chlamydia is typically treated with antibiotics — most often azithromycin or doxycycline. However, for certain people, there are alternative options. One of these is amoxicillin, which is sometimes prescribed for pregnant women to ensure both mom and baby are safe.
Unfortunately, not, you cannot buy doxycycline over the counter. It can only be purchased with a doctor's prescription.
How does chlamydia spread? Once a person has chlamydia, they can spread it to their partners through sexual intercourse, anal sex or oral sex. Infections can also occur when a person with chlamydia shares sex toys with their partners.

Increased risk of organ damage, disease, and cancer
Untreated STDs can grow unchecked for years in your body and cause potentially serious or deadly diseases to develop. For example, someone with HPV can get cervical or anal cancer, while syphilis can cause blindness, dementia, and heart or kidney damage.
