Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer is sometimes called the 13th or forgotten constellation of the zodiac. That's because the sun passes in front of Ophiuchus from about November 30 to December 18 each year. And yet no one ever says they're born when the sun is in Ophiuchus.
It all started with a resurfaced story NASA “discovered” a 13th zodiac sign—Ophiuchus, or the serpent-bearer. Anyone born between November 29 and December 17 would no longer be a Scorpio or a Sagittarius, but an Ophiuchus.
That said, some still choose to recognize Ophiuchus as the 13th zodiac sign and, because it is rarely used in the world of astrology, it is also believed to be the second rarest zodiac sign.

Aquarius is the rarest zodiac sign. Water-bearer babies tend to be few and far between because February is the least common birth month, according to the CDC. Additionally, the overlap period between January and February is the shortest astrologically, says Ash.
While neither system of astrology officially uses Ophiuchus as a sign, some sidereal astrologers may incorporate it into their practice. The constellation, which represents a serpent-bearer, falls between the late degrees of fixed water sign Scorpio and the earlier degrees of mutable fire sign Sagittarius.
The astrological signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. The Western zodiac originated in Babylonian astrology, and was later influenced by the Hellenistic culture.

The 12 astrological signs of the zodiac are each considered to occupy 1/12 (or 30°) of its great circle. These signs no longer correspond to the astronomical constellations in which the Sun actually appears.
