Donating hair
Some ask for at least 7 inches (about 17 cm), while others ask for at least 14 inches (about 35cm). To decide if your hair is long enough, you measure the ponytail of hair that would be cut off (donated). This length does not refer to the length of your hair when on your head.
Wash and dry your hair.

Can I donate dreadlocks? Dreadlocks cannot be used in our children's hairpieces. Part of the preparation to blend hair donations together involves combining individual strands of hair. All hair must be able to be combed to separate these individual hairs.
It only contains mitochondrial DNA, which is not typically stored in crime databases. So it's unlikely that they would connect it to you. Even if you were implicated, you simply say you donated hair. Locks of love will have record of your donation and who the wig went to.

Locks of Love Guidelines For Acceptable Donations: Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable. A past haircut is usable only if it was preserved in a ponytail or braid. A Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable.
You can sell your hair on places like eBay or reach out to specific wigmakers individually. There's also a handful of websites where you can sell your hair online. Post a listing for your long locks, and people who buy hair will contact you through the site. (Sort of like OfferUp, but for human hair.)
Any split ends should be trimmed off before donating; otherwise, the organizations have to do so themselves, which can be a very time-consuming process. Hair should also be donated when dry rather than wet, which can cause mold to grow.

If you have mature dreads, make sure to wash them at least once every week. During the rest of the days when you take a shower, you can use a shower cap that's extra-large to protect them from the humidity.
